Today, the Cobourg Police Service joined ret.Deputy Chief Paul Eddy's family, friends, former colleagues, and members of our community in honouring his memory and celebrating a life dedicated to service.

Deputy Chief Eddy served the Cobourg Police Service and the community of Cobourg with distinction, dedicating over three decades to public service. As we reflect on his legacy, we also recognize the lasting influence he had on future generations, including his grandson, Constable Jeremy Eddy, who proudly continues in his footsteps.

We remember Deputy Chief Paul Eddy with gratitude for his contributions, respect for his service, and appreciation for the example he set throughout his life.

ONGOING Investigation investigating an assault that occurred in the early morning hours of September 6, 2026.

◽️At approximately 2:40 a.m., an individual attended the police station and reported having been assaulted in the area of McGill Street and King Street East in Cobourg. Through the investigation, officers learned that a verbal interaction escalated, and the individual was struck by an unknown object. The individual was transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries and has since been released.
Police attended the area and identified several individuals who were present at the time of the incident. Police secured and processed the scene with the assistance of the Durham Regional Police Service Scenes of Crime Officer unit. Police seized evidence including a long object believed to have been used in the assault.

At this time, no suspect has been identified. CPS Criminal Investigation Bureau continues to investigate, canvassing the area for witnesses and reviewing available video footage. Based on the information currently available at this time, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no known ongoing risk to public safety.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submitting a tip online at stopcrimehere.ca. Tips submitted through Peterborough Northumberland Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a cash reward.

members conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) initiative earlier this week in Cobourg and were pleased to find no impaired driving violations.👍

◽️A 57-year-old Cobourg man has been charged following a dog bite incident in Cobourg. On September 1, 2026, police responded to a report that a dog had bitten an adult. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Police identified the dog's owner and determined there had been previous documented incidents involving the animal. As a result of the police investigation, on September 3, 2026, a 57-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm.

Police and Municipal Law Enforcement officers continue to work to locate the dog, a large white Dogo Argentino.

If you see the dog, do not approach it. Maintain a safe distance and contact the Cobourg Police Service at 905-372-6821 or Municipal Law Enforcement at 905-372-8380.
