Clarenville Fire Departments weekly training last night consisted of driving exercises taken from the NFPA 1002 standard on Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications.

Members practised and were successful in completing the Serpentine, Alley Dock, and Diminishing Clearance exercises using a variety of our fleet.

Two of our newest members also completed regular driver training with a senior member to familiarize themselves with driving our apparatus.

Continual and refresher training ensures we are prepared and ready to serve our community!

Members of our fire dept were busy training on Thursday night, Friday night, and Saturday! Our members willingly volunteered their time to ensure they are trained and prepared to respond!

Members completed the new “Ground Cover Firefighting for Structural Firefighters” course. It was co-instructed by Evan Cox of the Clarenville Fire Dept and Tom Burry of the Gambo Fire Dept.

We were pleased to have Jordan Butler who is the Fire Chief of the Arnold’s Cove Fire Dept join us as well so that he can bring the information back to his community!

Thank you to everyone involved!

This course trained our structural firefighters who may find themselves operating in the wildland-urban interface zones to be equipped to respond safely and effectively to ground cover and Wildland Urban Interface fires.

We take pride in ensuring our members have the necessary training and tools to serve our community.

The members of the Clarenville Fire Dept have also volunteered to help our neighbours and other areas of the province as well when the call for assistance was received. In 2025 our members assisted on the Kingston, Sexton’s Mill, and Random island Wildfires.

Did you know! The 2025 wildfire season in NL was unprecedented in fire frequency and community impact, despite a below-average area burned.

The most impactful thing residents and homeowners can do is to ensure their properties are protected is to implement “Firesmart” principles! To learn more about Firesmart use the following link: https://firesmartcanada.ca/

Carbon monoxide alarms save lives. Make sure yours are installed in the right places.

Install carbon monoxide alarms outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of your home. Test them regularly so they’re ready to give early warnings when you need them most.
