During the mid 1930’s a small group of citizens seen the growing concerns for some sort of fire protection to cover the community of Chester , the Hawbolts Foundry was expanding ,people were moving to the area ,summer homes were getting larger . On this day May 1st 1936 a group of citizens signed the registry as charter members of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department, since the early years the fire department has changed to try and keep a breast of the ever growing needs of the community, and we are still moving forward with a membership that keep training and practicing to maintain the requirements that are presented to us , so on this May 1st some 90 years after the original membership put a plan in place to protect and serve the community of Chester we would like to thank all the officers and members that served before us to lay a foundation for us to work from as we keep moving forward with their dreams of looking after our fellow citizens ,90 years later we are a proud group to be part of the CHESTER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT!

On March 24th we had 11 members attend the municipal fire service appreciation dinner. We would like to thank the municipality, Oak Island Resort and Conference Center, and all other parties that made the evening possible!! Filled with great food, door prizes, recognition certificates, and most importantly camaraderie, we all left with fully bellies and lots of laughs.

This year also marked the end of an era. Since 2008 Bruce Blackwood has been a steadfast supporter across the municipality as our municipal fire service coordinator. He was quick to answer the phone, willing to help wherever he could, and certainly offered a lot of support to our leadership! We would like to congratulate Bruce as he moves into retirement this fall! Thank you for everything you have done for us! You certainly leave a big pair of shoes to fill!! If you happen to see Bruce around feel free to give him a thanks and a pat on the back!! He spent his whole career here in MODC helping us help all of you!

Enjoy Bruce!

This morning we had some members take part in ice water rescue training. The weak ice offered some excellent training opportunities. Although the weather was less then ideal the spirits were high and a great time was had! Emergencies happen rain or shine so today also offered a very realistic scenario with its own complications. There is no such thing as routine in this business and today showed that.

We would like to send a huge shout out to both our mutual partners from hantsport who gave up their morning to provide us with a warm dry place to suit up and down etc and also to a long time supporter of our organization who is always willing and eager to help us in any way, she is really much more like everyone’s mom, Wanda for welcoming us on her property allowing us ideal lake access and adequate working space. We are very fortunate to have people like you in the community, So thank you thank you thank you

Good afternoon everyone. You will notice some activity on the north end of Stanford lake tomorow morning ( March 14). Please be advised the CVFD will be toughing out the weather to take advantage of deteriorating ice conditions in order to practice and improve our skills and proficiency in ice water rescue.. the quality of the ice is quickly diminishing with the spring like weather we’ve experienced. Although this is a skill set we hope to only have to use in training scenarios, we need to stay sharp and ready!

In your daily travels we ask that you please use great caution to ensure the ice is safe to travel on anytime you are planning to go on frozen water bodies.

Good morning everyone!! There are lots of fun events happening around Chester this weekend for the annual Christmas festival!

Things kick off with the tree lighting at parade square Friday evening, and well.. we’ve heard that Mr and Mrs clause have asked the fire department if we could deliver them to parade square to give their sleigh a rest before the big day. We are set to arrive at parade square at 6pm Friday November 28th where with a little encouragement hopefully Santa will light the community tree!! Hohoho
