Residents of Wheatley and surrounding areas: The Romney Leaf and Yard Depot will be open for special hours this weekend to assist with cleanup following the recent storm.

The depot will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday to accept brush and yard debris resulting from the storm.

The Romney Leaf and Yard Depot is located at 22022 Wheatley Road in the Community of Romney.

Residents cleaning up their properties are encouraged to make use of the extended weekend hours to dispose of storm-related brush.

WHEATLEY: Severe weather in Wheatley today caused significant damage to the electrical system. We understand how difficult an extended outage is and want to assure the community that our crews are working to restore power as safely and quickly as possible.
Our full team will remain on duty until midnight tonight. A small crew and arborist will continue working throughout the night, focusing on work that can be completed safely during overnight hours. Full staffing will resume tomorrow morning, and we will bring in further support as available.
Given the extent of the damage, we encourage residents to prepare for an extended outage lasting into tomorrow evening (Friday) until approximately 5pm.

Municipal crews are currently assessing storm damage, including trees, across several parks and cemeteries. Thank you for your patience as we address issues based on priority.

Northside Park in Tilbury will be temporarily closed while storm damage is assessed.

If you notice a potential hazard, please report it by calling 311.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is advising residents that the Lord Selkirk Bridge in Wallaceburg is closed to vehicular traffic for public safety until further notice due to a mechanical issue.

➡️The bridge remains open to pedestrians.
ℹ️ The bridge is currently not operable for marine traffic requiring the bridge to open.

Municipal staff are working to address the mechanical issue. At this time, a timeline for reopening the bridge has not been determined. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

Motorists are asked to follow the posted detour route using Base Line Road, Old Glass Road, Mason Street and Arnold Street and to allow additional travel time when moving through the area.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent appreciates the patience and understanding of residents, businesses and motorists as work continues toward reopening the bridge as soon as possible.

Community of Harwich - Please be advised that, from September 2, 2026 at 6:00 AM, to September 3, 2026 at 6:00 PM, Burk Line from Huffman Road to Harwich Road will be closed to all traffic while crews complete work related to replacing the Morrison Drain Road Crossing.

Community of Ridgetown - Please be advised that on September 1st, 2026 Golf Course Line, from Scane Road to Marsh Street will be closed to facilitate a culvert replacement until September 5th 2026 at 5:00 PM.

Emergency vehicles and local traffic will have access to the work location of 99 Golf Course Line. However, through traffic will not be permitted during the closure. Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour and allow additional travel time.
