⚠️ Mosquitoes Test Positive for West Nile Virus ⚠️

CK Public Health has received laboratory confirmation that mosquitoes collected August 25th, 2026, from a trap in Dresden have tested positive for West Nile Virus. This is the first positive pool identified in Chatham-Kent this season.

⚠️ Heat Warning Issued for Chatham-Kent ⚠️

Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1 through to Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Maximum temperatures between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius are expected, while minimum temperatures will be between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius. Humidex values are expected to reach 38 degrees Celsius.

Individuals lacking shelter, water, or food are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of extreme heat. Anyone experiencing homelessness should call the Homeless Response Line at 519-354-6628 (24/7) for support.

Emergency Water Restriction LIFTED. Please read post for full details.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is lifting the emergency water restrictions that have been in place for Chatham and several surrounding communities. Residents are now being asked to conserve water by limiting grass watering over the next few days.

Effective immediately, residents and businesses in Chatham, Grande Pointe, Pain Court, Dover Centre, Mitchell’s Bay, Dresden, Tupperville, Eberts, Prairie Siding, Thamesville and Kent Bridge may resume normal water use such as showering, laundry, and bathing.

Our largest industrial, commercial and institutional water customers are being contacted directly and asked to gradually resume water consumption over the next few days to avoid putting increased strain on the system. Restaurants, car washes, and laundromats are no longer being asked to voluntarily remain closed.

Municipal splash pads and arenas in the impacted areas will reopen as scheduled tomorrow, September 1.

While the emergency restrictions have been lifted, regular lawn watering restrictions are now in effect for customers served by the affected water system.
• This applies to lawn watering; all irrigation uses and all other non-essential uses of the potable water supply.
• Customers with odd numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on odd numbered days.
• Customers with even numbered addresses will be allowed to water their lawns on even numbered days.
• This does not apply for newly sodded lawns.

The Municipality and Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission thank residents and businesses for their significant cooperation throughout the restrictions. The reduction in water use across the affected communities produced real results and helped protect the water system while crews worked to stabilize operations.

The Municipality recognizes the inconvenience the emergency restrictions caused and thanks residents, businesses and community organizations for their understanding and cooperation. The collective response demonstrated the significant impact that conservation can have when the community works together.

⚠️ Emergency severe water restrictions REMAIN IN EFFECT Sunday August 30 for Chatham and several surrounding communities. ⚠️

Emergency severe water restrictions remain in effect today for Chatham and several surrounding communities as the Municipality of Chatham-Kent continues working to stabilize the water system following repairs to the main water transmission line feeding the Chatham Water Treatment Plant.

The restrictions remain in effect for:

- Chatham
- Grande Pointe
- Pain Court
- Dover Centre
- Mitchell’s Bay
- Dresden
- Tupperville
- Eberts
- Prairie Siding
- Thamesville
- Kent Bridge

Residents in these communities are asked to continue limiting water use to essential purposes only, including drinking, brushing teeth and flushing toilets.

The Municipality appreciates the significant efforts residents, businesses and organizations have already made to reduce water consumption. Those efforts are making a difference; there have been some improvements toward the system returning to normal levels, but continued conservation remains critical while the system recovers.

There continues to be no impact to the safety or quality of the drinking water. Water remains safe to drink. The restrictions are necessary to reduce demand on the system and allow water supplies to recover while operations at the Chatham Water Treatment Plant continue to stabilize. This is a short-term effort that is need to replenish supplies within the Chatham-Kent water supply.

Residents should continue to avoid showers, laundry, watering lawns and gardens, washing vehicles, filling pools or hot tubs, and all other non-essential water use.

Residents are also reminded not to fill bathtubs, buckets or other containers to stockpile water. This creates additional demand on the system and works against efforts to restore adequate water levels and pressure.

Businesses that use significant amounts of water, including car washes, dog washes and laundromats, are asked to continue to voluntarily suspend operations involving significant water consumption.

Industrial, commercial and institutional water customers are also being asked to continue restricting consumption and, where possible, postpone operations or production requiring significant amounts of water.

Municipal splash pads, pools and arenas in the impacted areas will remain closed while the emergency restrictions are in effect.

The Municipality continues to closely monitor water production, reservoir levels and system pressure. Restrictions will remain in place until the system has stabilized sufficiently to safely return to normal water consumption.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available. Residents and businesses are asked to continue following the emergency severe water restrictions until the Municipality announces they have been lifted.

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is directing residents and businesses in Chatham and several surrounding communities to immediately restrict water use to essential purposes only as the municipal water system experiences significant supply challenges following repairs to the main water transmission line feeding the Chatham Water Treatment Plant.

There is currently no impact to the safety or quality of the drinking water. Water from the system remains safe to drink. These emergency restrictions are temporary and necessary to maintain adequate supplies while the system stabilizes following the repairs.

The emergency severe water restrictions apply to:
• Chatham
• Grande Pointe
• Pain Court
• Dover Centre
• Mitchell’s Bay
• Dresden
• Tupperville
• Eberts
• Jeannette’s Creek
• Thamesville
• Kent Bridge

Residents must immediately restrict water use. Until further notice, residents in the affected communities are directed to use municipal water only for essential purposes, including drinking, brushing teeth and flushing toilets.

Residents are directed to stop other water use, including:
• Showering and bathing
• Doing laundry
• Watering lawns and gardens
• Washing vehicles
• Filling pools or hot tubs
• Other non-essential uses of water

Residents should NOT fill bathtubs, buckets or other containers to store water as a precaution. Doing so would place additional demand on the system, further reduce water pressure and increase the risk of a system-wide pressure loss.

Storage reservoirs are approaching critically low levels and the system is at risk of losing pressure. Reducing consumption immediately will help stabilize the system and provide the time necessary for full water production to resume.

Industrial, commercial and institutional water customers are also being contacted directly and asked to significantly restrict their water consumption. Some large water users are shutting down or rescheduling production and other activities that require significant volumes of water.

Businesses whose operations involve significant water consumption, including car washes, dog washes and laundromats, are being asked to voluntarily close for the day. Restaurants and other significant commercial water users are also being asked to reduce or cease water-intensive operations wherever possible to help preserve the municipal water supply and maintain system pressure.

The Municipality is also shutting down municipal operations that require significant water use in the impacted communities, including splash pads, arenas and municipal pools.

These restrictions are intended to be a short-term measure while the water system stabilizes following the transmission line repairs.

Residents and businesses are asked to take these restrictions seriously and reduce their water consumption immediately. The collective reduction in water use will help protect the system and reduce the likelihood of a complete loss of water pressure.

The Municipality will continue to monitor the system closely and will provide updates as additional information becomes available. Residents should continue following the emergency severe water restrictions until the Municipality advises that they have been lifted.
