While many are enjoying a well-deserved day off, we're especially grateful to our team members who are working today. In a profession that operates every day of the year, we're so thankful for all that you do.

Another Island summer is in the books, and the start of a new school year is already almost here. As students get ready to head back to class next week, it's a good time to revisit how they'll get to and from school safely.

Whether they're walking, biking, or taking the bus, a few minutes spent reviewing their route and talking about safe habits around roads, crossings, and bus stops can can help children feel confident, independent, and ready for the year ahead.

The safest route is one they're familiar with, so walk or practice it together. Talk about crosswalks, traffic signals, and the importance of making eye contact with drivers before crossing. When possible, encourage children to walk with siblings, friends, or classmates, and make sure they know how to stay safe while waiting for and riding the bus.

Taking a few minutes to prepare now can help build safe habits that last all school year long.

Last week, Rebecca and Makiya were proud to take part in the Gold Cup Parade, representing Island EMS alongside the many businesses, organizations, and community groups that make this event, and our Island, so special.

It was wonderful to see so many Islanders out enjoying this cherished tradition and celebrating together as a community. 💚

On August 1, Island EMS and Nitro participated in the Atlantic 911 Ride Mock Jail Fundraiser at Twin Shores, raising a grand total of $6,000.

The day was especially meaningful as we remembered Mike and Jenna. Mike's longstanding involvement with this annual event was deeply missed, and Jenna's memory was honoured through the support and generosity of her father and her fiancé.

They were both in our thoughts throughout the day as we came together to raise funds for Atlantic 911 Ride.

A commemorative challenge coin has been created in honour of Mike and Jenna.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated, with 50% supporting the memorial monument project and 50% going directly to their families.

Every detail of this coin was chosen with care to honour their service, sacrifice, and lasting impact on their families, friends, coworkers, and communities.

To our Island community, and to everyone across the country, thank you.

In the days following this tragedy, you wrapped us in kindness. Through flowers, food deliveries, cards, messages, comments, and countless other thoughtful gestures, you reminded us that we were not facing this alone.

To every individual, business, community group, organization, and first responder who reached out, offered help, or held us in your thoughts, thank you.

During one of the most difficult times in our organization's history, your support brought comfort, strength, and a sense of togetherness. Every gesture, whether big or small, reminded our entire organization that they are surrounded by a community that cares deeply.

On behalf of everyone at Island EMS, thank you for standing with us, for supporting one another, and for helping us through this difficult time. Please continue to keep Jenna's and Mike's families, as well as the patient's family, in your thoughts.

The City is advising the public of temporary traffic delays and road closures in Charlottetown on Friday, July 17, as funeral processions are held in honour of Island paramedics Jenna Croucher and Michael MacKenzie, who died in a motor vehicle collision while on duty.

On Friday, July 17, we will gather to honour and remember our colleagues, Jenna Croucher and Mike MacKenzie, whose dedication, compassion, and service touched the lives of all who knew them.

As family, friends, colleagues, and members of the emergency services community come together for these services, we welcome the public to pay their respects as the procession moves along University Avenue, from Province House to the Charlottetown Mall. We encourage everyone attending to do so respectfully, follow the direction of event staff and law enforcement, and be mindful that these processions are an opportunity for our community to honour Jenna and Mike, and to support their families, friends, and colleagues.

Jenna Croucher's Procession:
Following the service at the Delta Prince Edward, the procession begins at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Mike Mackenzie's Procession:
Following the service at the Delta Prince Edward and St. Dunstan’s Basilica the procession will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m. up university ave.

In addition to safely lining the procession, we recognize that many members of our community wish to honour Mike and Jenna and be part of remembering their lives and service. We welcome those who would like to join us in remembrance to do so through the live streams on the Island EMS page.
