As a reminder, fireworks are prohibited without the required license and permit.

Under provincial regulations, fireworks may only be set off by a person licensed through Natural Resources Canada who has obtained a permit to hold and display fireworks. These requirements apply to both public and private fireworks displays.

The City of Charlottetown’s Nuisance Bylaw also prohibits setting off fireworks within city limits unless specifically authorized or permitted.

Unauthorized fireworks pose a serious public safety risk, including the potential for fires, injuries and property damage. Residents are asked to follow provincial regulations and municipal bylaws and refrain from setting off fireworks without the required approvals.

For more information about provincial fireworks regulations and permits, contact the P.E.I. Fire Marshal’s Office at 902-368-4869.

UPDATE: Traffic has returned to normal in most areas of the city.

Thanks to all of the crews and first responders who supported the swift response and are continuing to address the remaining issues.

———-

Following today's severe storm, we want to remind drivers, pedestrians and cyclists to use extra caution as flooding, debris and power outages have created some challenges for commuters.

Be advised there are a number of detours and temporary road closures throughout the city as crews and officers work to resolve these hazards.

As a reminder, please treat non-functioning traffic signals as all-way stops.

Please slow down, stay alert and be safe.
