Charlottetown Fire Department responded to a report of heavy smoke coming from the overhead doors at the Eastlink Centre last evening. Three apparatus and 27 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
The source of the smoke was determined to be a motor failure within the ice chiller system. Damage was contained to the affected motor. Staff on site shut down the equipment, and firefighters assisted with cooling operations and ventilating the building.
Investigators remained on scene to determine the cause of the equipment failure.
