Aquaculture allows us to enjoy seafood species without endangering wild populations. But when it comes to raising these Spotted Atlantic Wolffish at Amar Seafood, it isn’t just about food; it’s about caring for a living species.

Every day, the Amar team monitors water quality and stock density to create the healthiest environment possible, because healthy fish make the best product!

In this video, you’ll see staff carefully taking and recording fish measurements like length and weight, tagging the fish and performing an ultrasound!

Ultrasounds are used to determine the s*x of the fish, track egg development, and even predict when they’ll be ready to spawn. This is important because a healthy female produces strong eggs, and monitoring growth helps us select the best broodstock for future generations.

Once selected, broodstock are split by s*x into tanks with optimal temperatures for females to grow their eggs and for males to develop s***m, ensuring strong, sustainable wolffish populations.

Farming like this is about more than seafood. It’s about stewardship, science, and creating a sustainable future for this remarkable species.

Think oyster season stops when the ice sets in? Think again.🦪❄️

Here in Prince Edward Island, oyster harvest doesn’t pause for winter, it adapts.

When fall rolls in, oyster pods are submerged beneath the water and their exact GPS locations are marked.

Once the ice is thick enough, crews cut through it and carefully pull up the pods one by one.

From sled ➝ to shore ➝ to markets around the world.

Seafood has been at the heart of life on PEI for generations, especially in our rural towns. One place that truly shows this is Fishmart Royal Star Foods, a lobster and crab processor in Tignish.

Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2025, Royal Star has grown from humble beginnings into the largest and most modern lobster processor in Atlantic Canada. What makes it truly special isn’t just the seafood – it’s the people!

Where once you needed to be related to a fisherman to work at the plant, today Royal Star welcomes newcomers from around the world. In fact, 80% of its workforce during peak season are newcomers, many from the Philippines. They’ve become part of the town, helping to share its culture, traditions, our love for the sea.
