Most indoor fires are preventable. While not all accidents are preventable, there are ways you can make your home safer.

➡️Working smoke alarms save lives. Ensure that the batteries in your smoke alarm are fresh and test the alarm often
➡️Practice home fire drills regularly. Plan two escape routes from every room and make sure everyone knows how to get out safely
➡️Careless smoking is the leading cause of fire-related deaths.
➡️Cooking-related fires are the number one cause of home fires. Never leave cooking appliances unattended when in use.
➡️Keep matches and lighters out of sight and out of reach of children

Drug related overdoses are on the rise in Canada. You can help save a life with the Take Home Naloxone Program.

Naloxone is a fast-acting medication used to temporarily reverse an opioid overdose until medical help arrives. It can restore breathing within 2 to 5 minutes. Call 911 even if naloxone is used. The effects of opioids last longer than the effect of naloxone, meaning medical attention is still needed. Naloxone may need to be used again.

Naloxone is safe for all ages. It only works if you have opioids in your system. You cannot use naloxone improperly and does not create dependence. It is safe to keep a naloxone kit on hand.

Learn more about Naloxone and where you can get your kit here https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/health-and-wellness/take-home-naloxone-program
