PEI Gov Health The Department of Health and Wellness provides oversight to health services in PEI.

The Department of Health and Wellness provides oversight to health services in the province in accordance with the Health Services Act. It establishes an accountability framework, standards for health services, performance targets, policy or guidelines for the management of operations and delivery of services and approves business plans and budgets. The Department also provides leadership in all m

atters related to public health and health promotion and informs policy to improve the health and well-being of citizens. Some of the priorities in this mandate are to:

•Enhance primary care through the active recruitment and deployment of skilled front-line workers
•Continue to advance a culture of wellness in the province
•Work with Health PEI to advance service delivery, clinical decision making and adherence to fiscal goals
•Advance rural health delivery, including the implementation of regional district advisory councils
•Work with other social policy departments on a renewed Mental Health and Addictions strategy

The Mental Health and Addictions Redevelopment project in PEI is receiving international recognition for its design and approach to care.

The project has been invited to present at the European Healthcare Design Conference — one of the largest healthcare design conferences in the world. It has also been named as one of four finalists in the conference’s “Future Healthcare Design” category, which highlights projects that are still under development.

The Prince Edward Island Generic Drug Program is for Islanders under the age of 65 who do not have insurance. The program limits out-of-pocket costs for eligible generic prescription drugs to a maximum cost of $19.95.

Applications can be filled online or in person at Access PEI locations, pharmacies, physician offices, or pharmacare offices. You can also auto fill the application with your MyPEI account.

High temperatures are on the way! Protect yourself and loved ones from heat-related illnesses by following these tips this summer:

➡️Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol and caffeine during extreme heat.
➡️ Wear Appropriate Clothing: Opt for lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothes.
➡️ Use Sunscreen: Apply SPF 30+ and reapply frequently.
➡️ Stay Informed: Monitor weather forecasts and know heat illness symptoms.
➡️ Food Safety: Keep perishables below 40°F, use coolers with ice packs.
➡️ Check on Vulnerable Individuals: Ensure kids, elderly, and outdoor workers stay cool and hydrated. Never leave anyone in a parked car!

If you are attending post-secondary school, you are eligible to receive Men-B vaccination.

Especially if you’re moving into a group living situation (residence or military barracks), you should consider getting the Meningitis B vaccine.

When entering a post-secondary health program, joining the military, or working in a health-related field, you will need to be up-to-date and present your vaccination records.

Childhood vaccines not up to date? You are now able to consent for yourself now and get caught up. Remember Childhood vaccines are free.
