We are proud to be recognized as the Advocate of the Year award by ENERGY STAR® Canada.

The blue ENERGY STAR sticker on products like dehumidifiers and windows signifies that the product meets rigorous energy efficiency standards to help households reduce energy use and save on utility bills.

In PEI, rebates are available on many of these products. Island residents can access energy efficiency information and help online at https://www.efficiencypei.ca

Save on energy efficient products and your energy bill

Instant Savings is back, and Kent Charlottetown is a sea of bright pink posters signaling big savings.
Jim Power, store manager said the seasonal campaign, which runs this year from September 27 until November 17, is always a nice surprise for people.
“They are walking around the store and they just fall into the Instant Savings,” he says with a laugh.
Instant rebates are available through efficiencyPEI on certified energy efficient appliances and select products purchased at participating retailers across the Island.
The program is one of many energy efficient programs designed to help Islanders save money while reducing their energy costs.
The seasonal rebates include savings on ENERGY STAR® LED light bulbs, lighting control systems, programmable thermostats, water saving products like WaterSense® certified showerheads, weather stripping, air sealing kits, and other select items.
Mark Taylor, appliances specialist at Kent Charlottetown, said he finds the Instant Savings a great opportunity to engage people.
“Engagement is really important,” he said, “the customer might be coming in the store for windshield fluid and then notice the signs for lightbulbs.” That is great time to show them other Instant Savings products they may need.
As the appliance specialist, Mark has noticed that since dishwashers were added to the list of eligible appliances, questions about the rebates have increased.
One of the most popular year-round appliances on the list is the smart thermostat, which has a rebate of $100.
“That one makes me stop and take notice,” Jim said, noting that the program has a positive impact, “because everyone loves a bargain.”
Other eligible appliances are full-size refrigerators, washing machines, toilets, dehumidifiers, clothes dryers, combination washer/dryer units, dishwashers, bathroom and utility fans, and air purifiers.
“The toilets are a big seller with the $75 rebate,” Mark said. “Other products with a $75 rebate are the full-size refrigerators, washing machines and clothes dryers.”

Find products eligible for Instant Savings at a retailer near you.

Mark Taylor left, and Jim Power display a few of the many Instant Savings products available until Nov. 17 at Kent Charlottetown and other participating retailers.

efficiencyPEI has received its ninth ENERGY STAR Canada Award. The award, the 2024 Advocate of the Year, was announced during a ceremony, June 4 in Ottawa, Ontario.
Each year, ENERGY STAR Canada recognizes businesses and organizations for their outstanding contributions to protecting the environment and saving energy. Award recipients are selected for their commitment to building a healthier, more energy-resilient future for Canadians through the provision and promotion of the brand in Canada. They earn the prized recognition of being the best in their class—and use of a special ENERGY STAR winner’s symbol.
The ENERGY STAR symbol is the internationally recognized and trusted mark of high efficiency. Behind every label is a product, home, building or industrial facility that is certified to use less energy and reduce emissions that contribute to climate change.
The Government of Prince Edward Island founded efficiencyPEI in 2008 to increase energy efficiency across the province. This organization is committed to providing Islanders with knowledge, advice and programs that will promote sustainable energy use and encourage the importance of energy efficiency that benefits the economic, social, and environmental well-being of Prince Edward Island residents and the businesses they count on.

Key 2023 accomplishments include:
• Installed ENERGY STAR certified products for 516 low-income islanders as part of the Winter Warming Program.
• Increased participation in the Home Insulation program by providing rebates on ENERGY STAR certified windows and doors, air sealing and building envelope insulation. This includes 1820 ENERGY STAR certified windows and doors installed.
• Launched the Income Qualified Free Heat Pump program with the installation of over 7000 NEEP eligible, ENERGY STAR certified units. This is in addition to 7080 ENERGY STAR heat pumps rebated through the Energy Efficient Equipment Rebate (EEER) Program.
• Saw a 32% increase in the number of clients over last year, with over 1325 Solar program participants.
• Completed two instant savings campaigns, which provided over 40,000 in-store rebates on ENERGY STAR certified products - resulting in 2 gigawatt hours of energy savings.

efficiencyPEI has received eight other ENERGY STAR Canada awards including: Energy Efficiency Program Administrator of the Year (2019, 2021, 2022 and 2023); Advocate of the Year (2018, 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2024).
