When Early Childhood Educators lose hours or jobs, families, centres, and communities feel the impact.

Pedagogical Support positions:
✅Support children
✅Support educators
✅Support families
✅Support the workforce
✅Support strong communities

Reducing these positions weakens all of those things.

And because approximately 95% of PEI’s Early Learning and Child Care workforce are women, these reductions disproportionately impact women across our province.

We’re calling for full funding to be restored.

When funding to Pedagogical Support is reduced, children feel it too.

It can mean:
- Less one-on-one support during challenging moments
- Less time for educators to plan meaningful learning experiences
- More stress within classrooms
- Less flexibility to support children’s individual needs

Pedagogical Support Educators help children where they are, every single day.

And because these positions are overwhelmingly held by women, these reductions also disproportionately impact women across PEI’s workforce.

Supporting women in child care means supporting children, families, and communities too.

We can’t afford to move backward.

We need your help! The reduction to Pedagogical Support funding is already impacting Early Childhood Educators across PEI through reduced hours, job uncertainty, and fewer supports within child care centres.

These positions are essential to:
✅Supporting children during challenging moments
✅Giving educators time for planning and documentation
✅Reducing burnout
✅Strengthening quality child care across PEI

Now, we are asking our communities to help us advocate for full funding to be restored.

Recent reductions to Pedagogical Support funding will disproportionately impact women across Prince Edward Island through: Reduced hours, job loss, increased burnout, less stable employment opportunities.

These are experienced Early Childhood Educators who support children, families, educators, and entire centres every single day.

At a time when meaningful progress has been made in supporting women in the workforce, now is not the moment to move backward.

Supporting Pedagogical Support means supporting:
✅Women’s employment
✅Educator well-being
✅Quality child care
✅Stronger communities

Support child care! Support Island women's workforce!

The data is clear. Pedagogical Support is working in PEI’s Early Learning and Child Care centres.

According to the 2024 PEI Early Learning and Child Care Workforce Surveys:
📊 87% of Directors ranked Pedagogical Support as a top workforce support
📊 97% of Directors reported it enables paid planning, preparation, and documentation time
📊 The role was identified as a key driver of recruitment and retention

So why are these positions being reduced?

These cuts will disproportionately affect women in PEI’s workforce, while also impacting quality, working conditions, and sustainability across the sector.

We can’t afford to move backward.
