We are thrilled to share that Pedagogical Support positions will be fully funded through March 31, 2027.

The ELCC community across the country raised its voice about the importance of investing in strong, sustainable child care systems. The federal government listened and has responded with additional funding to support provincial and territorial systems.

Here on PEI, this funding is being used to fully fund Pedagogical Support, providing important stability for children, families, educators, and centres. Thank you to Minister Robin Croucher and our provincial teams for their continued advocacy with the federal government and PEI’s federal representatives.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who advocated, shared their stories, signed the petition, supported the campaign, and helped make the importance of Pedagogical Support visible.

“The Pedagogical Support position has been vital to our sector since its inception, it has supported the growth and changes in centres across PEI, supported retention in our workforce, and it’s been recognized across the country and is the envy of other provinces.” - Jenn Nangreaves, Executive Director, ECDA of PEI

What happens next?
The March 31, 2027 date provides the Province with a target to continue work with all partners to secure a sustainable future for not only the Pedagogical Support position, but the entire PEI ELCC system.

Beginning April 1, 2027, a new Pedagogical Support policy will be introduced to provide clear guidelines and direction for this essential position.

The ECDA is proud to have been part of this work, and we look forward to continuing to work collaboratively with Minister Croucher and his team.

Members, we’re looking for Fall Conference Volunteers! With our membership growing and our event sessions expanding, we are looking for passionate members to help during the Fall Conference!

Whether you have a couple of hours to lend a hand or want to take on a key hosting role, we would love to have your support!

🎤Become a Session Host
If you're interested in public speaking, this is a fantastic opportunity to step into the spotlight!

As a session host, you will:
Introduce and support the facilitator
Liaise directly with the ECDA team and support event facilitators.
Mentor a Holland College student during the event.
Build your network and guide the session room.
Support attendance

🎪General Event Support

Not interested in the mic? No problem! We are also looking for general event volunteers to welcome guests, help with check-in, answer attendee questions, and keep the day flowing effortlessly.

First Aid certification is an important part of working in Early Learning and Child Care, but Basic (Emergency) and Intermediate (Standard) First Aid are not the same.

This fall, we are offering Blended Basic and Intermediate First Aid CPR/AED Level C training in both Summerside and Charlottetown, with online learning followed by hands-on, in-person training.

🟢 Basic First Aid | Emergency
3 hours online + 3.5 hours in person

Basic First Aid provides general First Aid knowledge and is the level required for certified Early Childhood Educators under the Early Learning and Child Care Act.

🔵 Intermediate First Aid | Standard
4 hours online + 7 hours in person

Intermediate First Aid provides more comprehensive training and, under Occupational Health and Safety requirements, at least one employee in a child care centre must be on-site at all times with Standard First Aid.

Not sure which level is right for you? Check with your Director to determine what certification is appropriate for your role and your centre’s coverage needs.

In-person training: September 26
Registration & payment deadline: September 18

📍 Charlottetown
In-person training: October 3
Registration & payment deadline: September 25

⚠️ Important: A minimum of 10 participants is required per course.

For both levels, the online portion must be completed before attending the in-person training and skills assessment. No exceptions. Participants who have not completed the online portion will not be permitted to attend the in-person session.

Both courses meet CSA Z1210 standards and certification is valid for 3 years.

Leaders, are you ready to keep growing your leadership? 💙

Leadership is ongoing. There’s always an opportunity to pause, reflect, try something new, and continue building the skills and confidence needed to support your team!

This fall, we are offering a 4-Part Pedagogical Leadership Lab Series with , designed for Directors and centre leaders who want to continue growing their leadership practice.

A pedagogical lab is a space to learn, reflect, explore ideas and respond to what emerges within the group. Together, we’ll explore topics including trust in leadership, being in relationship, supporting team capacity, professional boundaries, complex conversations, and humanity-driven leadership.

Each session will build on the previous one while remaining responsive to the needs, questions and experiences of the leadership community.

We're excited to give you a sneak peek at this year's ECDA Fall Conference!

ECDA of PEI Start With Play Fall Conference 2026
📅 November 5th & 6th, 2026

We're thrilled to announce that Rusty Keeler will be joining us as our keynote speaker, alongside an exciting lineup of new facilitators and returning favourites.

This year's conference will include an Experience Day and conclude with a Keynote Day at the Confederation Centre of the Arts in beautiful downtown Charlottetown.

“Start With Play”, which is part of a larger upcoming campaign, reflects something we know deeply as Early Childhood Educators: play is the most essential way children learn, explore, connect, and make sense of the world around them.

This conference will invite us to think about how we can bring more play into every day and how we can share the importance of play with others in our communities. Together, we'll explore how play can be part of all facets of life and how we can create more opportunities to find joy in the process, not just in the outcome.

And that's not all! 👀

We're also kicking things off with a Pre-Conference Day on November 4th, exclusively for Directors and Leaders. Join Elizabeth Eldridge for The Thriving Workplace: Building Stronger Teams from the Inside Out, a full day focused on building stronger teams, workplace culture, supportive conversations, and resilience.
