đź’¬ The First Step Symposium: Phase 2 is coming this September!

The First Step Symposium brings together front-line organizations from across Prince Edward Island to connect, collaborate, and strengthen the support available to people experiencing workplace sexual harassment.

We’re thrilled to be rolling out Phase 2 of our community consultations during the third week of September! This next phase is another opportunity to come together with people who work directly with those experiencing workplace sexual harassment, to share expertise, talk about the resources currently available, identify gaps, and explore how we can better support one another.

Every conversation is a step toward reducing harm, strengthening connections, and creating safer, more respectful working environments for everyone on PEI.
We’re so looking forward to reconnecting, learning together, and continuing this important work.

đź’¬The First Step Symposium has been focused on bringing together front-line organizations from across Prince Edward Island to connect, collaborate, and strengthen the support available to workers.

We are currently rolling our phase 2 of our community consultations taking place the third week of September!

We are so looking forward to another opportunity for participants to share their expertise, discuss the resources currently available, and explore where additional supports are needed.

Every conversation is helping to build stronger connections between organizations working toward safer, more respectful workplaces.

As our students head back to their studies this month, we’re sharing a few great questions you can ask your teen around the dinner table to reflect back on their summer job, to help open the conversation about safe and respectful workplaces.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing practical strategies to help you feel more confident having these conversations, building trust, and creating space for teens to feel comfortable speaking up.

The SHIFT Project is committed to raising awareness and giving PEI employers, employees, and families the tools they need to have important conversations and help prevent workplace sexual harassment.

When people hear “skilled trades,” they might think of carpenters, electricians, or plumbers. But skilled trades in Canada are so much broader. They include cooks, hairstylists, welders, automotive service technicians, bakers, heavy equipment operators, and so many more.

Workplace sexual harassment has no place in any trade, or any workplace. If you’ve experienced sexual harassment at work, you’re not alone. You have rights, and support is available.

đź’¬ Front-line organizations from across the Island gathered in one space to engage in meaningful dialogue, share knowledge, and strengthen collective understanding around supporting those experiencing workplace sexual harassment.

The First Step Symposium brought together an incredible group of participants for a day grounded in connection, collaboration, and optimism.

By bringing together the people doing this work every day, we were able to map existing supports, identify service gaps, and strengthen the network of organizations supporting workers across PEI.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to such an impactful day!

📝Les élèves de l’Î.-P.-É. posent des questions tellement pertinentes sur le harcèlement se**el en milieu de travail! Leurs questions sont vraiment réfléchies et, honnêtement, ce sont exactement les questions auxquelles tant d’entre nous ont besoin de réponses.

Their curiosity, perspective, and willingness to engage in these conversations remind us how much this next generation values respect, safety, and positive workplace culture.

Every question is a chance to learn together. By starting these conversations early, we're helping students feel more prepared and confident as they enter the workforce.

đź’¬ What happens when the people supporting workers across PEI come together in one room? Connection, collaboration, and a whole lot of momentum.

The First Step Symposium brought together front-line organizations from across the Island for a day of honest conversation, shared learning, and collective problem-solving.

Together, we explored what support currently looks like for people experiencing workplace sexual harassment: what’s working, where the gaps are, and how we can build stronger connections between the organizations already doing this vital work.
We left with a clearer picture of the support landscape, new connections, and renewed energy to keep moving this work forward.

Because meaningful change starts with coming together, and taking the first step.
