⚠️ PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE – BLACK HENBANE FOUND ⚠️
Black Henbane (Hyoscyamus niger) has been identified along the shores and extending into the grasslands around Lake Diefenbaker in the RM of Victory No. 226.
⚠️ Black Henbane is a highly poisonous plant that poses a serious risk to people, livestock, pets, and wildlife. All parts of the plant—including the leaves, flowers, stems, seeds, and roots—contain toxic compounds.
If you encounter Black Henbane:
🚫 Do not touch the plant with bare hands.
🧤 If handling is necessary, wear gloves, long sleeves, long pants, and eye protection.
😷 Avoid inhaling dust from dried plants or seeds.
🚫 Do not burn the plant, as smoke and particles may be hazardous.
🐄 Keep livestock and pets away from infested areas.
👧 Supervise children and teach them never to pick or eat unknown plants.
🧼 Wash your hands thoroughly and clean any tools or clothing that come into contact with the plant.
Signs of poisoning in people may include:
• Dry mouth and difficulty swallowing
• Dilated pupils and blurred vision
• Rapid heartbeat
• Flushed, hot, dry skin
• Confusion, agitation, hallucinations, or delirium
• Severe cases may lead to seizures, coma, or death
Signs of poisoning in animals may include:
• Excessive thirst
• Dilated pupils
• Rapid heartbeat
• Staggering or weakness
• Tremors or excitement
• Difficulty breathing
• Collapse or death in severe cases
❗ If you suspect a person or animal has ingested Black Henbane, seek medical or veterinary assistance immediately.
Please help protect our community by sharing this information. If you observe additional patches of Black Henbane around Lake Diefenbaker or elsewhere in the RM of Victory No. 226, report the location to our w**d inspector Mathew Hanke or the RM of Victory No 226

📣Have you heard the news? The Regional Park Pass Lending Program is back!

Starting May 15th, library card holders across Saskatchewan can borrow Regional Park passes for up to 7 days. Each pass gives you access to nearly 100 Regional Parks in Saskatchewan!

Passes will be distributed to all regional library branches, libraries in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Lloydminster, and university libraries in Saskatoon and Regina.

We're proud to be a part of this program again for 2026! A big thank you goes out to the Saskatchewan Library Association, the library districts, individual libraries, and our wonderful regional parks for participating in this this program.👏
