We would like to take this opportunity to recognize and congratulate Haldimand County Paramedic Mark Haynes on receiving the Ontario Paramedic Medal for Bravery yesterday!

On August 5, 2023, Paramedic Haynes was off-duty, camping at Chutes Provincial Park with his family. While at the beach, Paramedic Haynes observed an older man swim into deep water attempting to help his grandson. However, the man began to sink below the surface. The child swam to safety, but the man needed immediate aid. Paramedic Haynes swam 80 metres to where the man was struggling to keep his head above water. By the time Paramedic Haynes reached him, the man was totally submerged. Paramedic Haynes lifted the man above water so he could breathe and carried him back to shore. Paramedic Haynes’ quick response and strong swimming skills saved the life of a potential drowning victim.

Thank you, Mark, for representing our service and the community with such distinction. We are extremely proud of you and this remarkable accomplishment.

Compassion is at the heart of everything our paramedics do. Beyond providing emergency medical care, they build trusted human connections with patients and families during some of life’s most difficult and vulnerable moments.

Whether responding in an emergency, supporting patients in the community, or simply offering reassurance and understanding, paramedics provide care with empathy, dignity, and respect. Their compassion helps comfort patients, strengthen trust, and improve the overall well-being of our community.

This Paramedic Services Week, we recognize and thank our paramedics and community paramedics for the kindness, professionalism, and human connection they bring to every interaction.

During Paramedic Services Week, we proudly recognize the incredible impact of Community Paramedicine in Haldimand County — helping residents stay healthier, safer, and supported before a crisis happens. 🚑💙

Our Community Paramedicine Program plays a vital role in proactive healthcare, improving quality of life while reducing unnecessary emergency department visits and hospital admissions.

So far this year, Haldimand County Community Paramedics have supported:
• 417 clients through in-home and community-based care
• Approximately 140 clients through monthly wellness clinics held at 6 locations across the county

Community Paramedics provide valuable frontline healthcare services including:
✔ Basic blood work
✔ Urinalysis
✔ INR testing
✔ HbA1c testing

We are also proud of our K9 Medic Program, which provides comfort, connection, and support to residents and staff alike. Our K9 Medic team assists clients in their homes and visits community locations including Grandview Lodge, both local hospitals, and staff support initiatives when needed.

By building trusted relationships and focusing on prevention, education, and wellness, Community Paramedics continue to strengthen the health and wellbeing of our community every day.

🚑💙 Paramedic Services Week – Community & Prevention 💙🚑

This Paramedic Services Week, we’re highlighting the important role paramedics play not only in emergency response, but also in building safer, healthier communities through education and prevention.

Prepared communities save lives. That’s why we encourage residents to:
✔️ Learn CPR and how to use an AED
✔️ Understand the signs of an opioid overdose
✔️ Carry naloxone if you are aware of family or friends at risk. Know when and how to use it
✔️ Talk with family, friends, and coworkers about emergency preparedness
Early intervention by a bystander can make all the difference before emergency crews arrive. Whether it’s performing CPR, using an AED, or administering naloxone, these simple actions can help save a life.

Our paramedics are proud to support community education initiatives that empower residents with the skills and confidence to respond in an emergency.
