Healthcare affects every part of a strong community โ€” including our local businesses.

Join us for our next Business at Breakfast on Wednesday, September 30, as we welcome Brad Harrington of the Mississippi River Health Alliance for a timely conversation on the State of Healthcare in our community.

Weโ€™ll also be pleased to welcome MPP and Ontario Minister of Health John Jordan to the morning.

Along with a great breakfast and the chance to connect with fellow members of our local business community, this is an opportunity to hear whatโ€™s happening in healthcare locally, what lies ahead, and why it matters to the communities we serve.

Today, we remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the families, first responders and communities forever changed by that day.

Here in Canada, September 11 also became a remarkable story of community and service.

When thousands of passengers aboard diverted flights suddenly found themselves stranded far from home, communities across Canada welcomed them. Residents, volunteers, local businesses and organizations provided meals, places to sleep, transportation, clothing and, perhaps most importantly, kindness at a frightening and uncertain time.

It was an extraordinary example of something we see in communities every day: when people need help, it is often local people, businesses and organizations that step forward.

Today is also recognized in Canada as a National Day of Service โ€” a fitting reminder that strong communities are built not only through what we accomplish together, but through how we show up for one another when it matters most.

We remember.

๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrating one year in Carleton Place!

We were pleased to join the Integrate - Healthcare Collective last night as they marked their first anniversary in our community with an official ribbon cutting.

Dr. Chad Wilson and Dr. Adrienne Junek did the honours, joined by members of their team, community partners and local leaders.

It was great to see such strong community support for the occasion, with Mayor Toby Randell, Deputy Mayor Andrew Tennant, and Councillors Sarah Cavanagh, Linda Seccaspina, Dena Comley and Mark Hinton all joining in the celebration.

Congratulations to Dr. Wilson, Dr. Junek and the entire Integrate Ottawa team on this milestone. Weโ€™re always happy to celebrate the businesses and professionals who invest in our community, put down roots here and continue to grow.

Hereโ€™s to many more years in Carleton Place! โœ‚๏ธ

Today, Daniel Tisch, President and CEO of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, issued the following statement on Canadian counter-tariffs on U.S. goods:

โ€œThis morning, Donald Trumpโ€™s trade war with Canada enters a new phase, as the Canadian government responds with counter-tariffs on some $28 billion of U.S. goods.

โ€œThis is a sad day for North American businesses, and with the threat of further U.S. escalation, the week may get even worse. This mutually destructive trade war, driven by Trumpโ€™s multiple violations of his own trade agreement, is raising costs and impeding investment and hiring across the continent. Trade wars have no winners โ€“ only losers.

โ€œThe Ontario Chamber of Commerce would welcome a mutual de-escalation of tariffs, and a return to respecting the provisions of the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement. Unfortunately, the current president seems uninterested in doing so, and unwilling to abide by any deal he signs. While Canada should keep the lines of communication open, until U.S. political dynamics change, we must live with short-term turbulence rather than accept long-term harm to our businesses, our economy and our sovereignty.

โ€œThe governments of Canada and Ontario cannot be held responsible for the misguided, illegal actions of another country. They will, however, be judged on how well they make good on their promise to build a more dynamic economy: incentivizing business investment, expanding interprovincial and international trade, building infrastructure, developing a skilled workforce, and making it attractive for high-potential businesses to grow and sustain themselves in Canada. We are making exciting progress but must now move even faster.

โ€œThe Ontario Chamber will continue to work with our governments to achieve these goals, and to build inclusive, sustainable prosperity for businesses, workers and communities. Our member businesses believe deeply in Ontario and Canada, and face the future with confidence.โ€
