A weather system may move through Carleton Place and eastern Ontario this evening, Wednesday, September 2nd, late this afternoon and into this evening.

Possible conditions may include:
• Wind gusts of 70–90 km/h
• 20–40 mm of rainfall
• Hail measuring 2–3 cm

Now is a good time to bring in or secure any loose outdoor items, such as patio furniture, bins, and umbrellas. If you are travelling this evening, please slow down and use extra caution.

There is also a possibility of power outages. We encourage residents to have an emergency kit ready with flashlights, extra batteries, drinking water, non-perishable food, essential medications, and a fully charged phone or backup power source.

There are a number of tools available for Hydro One customers to report a power outage, and to stay up to date, including reporting an outage by texting 92887 (WATTS), through the Hydro One outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235

Please keep an eye on Environment and Climate Change Canada weather alerts and local forecasts for updates.

Emergency Preparedness

In preparation for future storms or emergencies, we would like to remind residents to always be ready for an emergency by preparing a 72-hour emergency kit for yourself and your family. Visit the Ontario Emergency Preparedness website - https://www.ontario.ca/page/be-prepared-emergency for tips.

As part of your kit, ensure you have a battery-powered radio. Check your flashlights, ensure that you have working batteries for them, and make sure your cell phone and other devices are charged when a storm is forecasted.

If the Town experiences an emergency, such as a power outage, information and updates will be shared via the Town’s website - www.carletonplace.ca, e-newsletter CP Scoop - www.carletonplace.ca/cpscoop, on Hustle & Heart 88.1 myFM radio station, on social media, and on notice boards at the Pool (359 Bridge Street) and at the Arena (75 Neelin Street).

Neighbours are one (1) of the greatest resources in an emergency. Introduce yourself before an emergency strikes. Helping a neighbour can be as simple as checking in on them to make sure they’re ok when the power goes out or sharing information during an emergency. Everyone benefits when we look out for each other!
