From all of us at the Cardigan Fire Department, We appreciate your support (and pizza!)

At Famous Peppers, community has always been at the heart of what we do.

We’re proud to congratulate the Cardigan Fire Department on receiving a donation raised through last month’s Pizza of the Moment promotion. A portion of every feature pizza sold was directed toward supporting a local fire department — and this year, we were honoured to give back to Cardigan, where Famous Peppers started!

Thank you to the dedicated members of the department for your continued hard work and service to our community. We hope you enjoyed the pizza!

A special thanks as well to Bogside Brewing for generously contributing some of their delicious beverages to help us celebrate.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to support the people who support all of us. ❤️🍕

🎄❄️ Christmas Morning Callout ❄️🎄
While many were opening presents and enjoying a quiet Christmas morning, Cardigan Fire Department was called to assist with a cross-country skiing mishap on the Cardigan Trails.

Our rescue quad and sled got a festive workout, making their way down the trails to help get the skier safely back out. Thankfully, it was a reminder that even peaceful holiday activities can come with a little adventure!

We’re happy to report everyone was cared for, and our crew was glad to help—holiday or not. Please remember to ski safely, travel with a buddy, and enjoy the trails responsibly this winter.

🚒❄️ From all of us at CVFD, Happy Holidays and stay safe!

🎃👻 Halloween Plans Got You Spooked by the Weather? 👻🎃

Don’t worry — the Cardigan Fire Department has you covered (literally)! ☔🚒

With some frightful weather in the forecast for Friday, we’re opening up the Cardigan Fire Hall so kids can trick-or-treat indoors and stay dry.

🕔 Doors open at 5:00 PM — come on by for some Halloween fun!
🍭 Residents who want to hand out treats are welcome to set up inside. If you’ve got a foldable table, bring it along!

🚗 A quick reminder: please use the back parking lot and keep the front area clear for first responders. Be extra careful when driving — there will be lots of excited little ghosts and goblins around! 👻💡

Let’s keep the spooky spirit alive — rain or shine, it’s going to be a great night at the fire hall! 🧙‍♀️🕸️

Congratulations Peter!

911 dispatch has been receiving lots of calls about the sight and smell of smoke across the island. Smoke from the fires in NS and NB is currently covering the island and causing a heavy smell of smoke and a heavy haze in the air.

Before calling 911 please try to verify that what you are seeing/smelling outside is not just smoke in the air from those fires.

Things to look for:
✅ Smoke column nearby.
✅ Visible fire.

Things that are likely ambient smoke conditions:
⛔️ Haze in the air in all directions with no visible smoke column or fire.
⛔️ The smell of smoke with no visible smoke column or fire.

When in doubt, call 911. Please provide as much detail as you can and answer any questions the dispatcher has to the best of your ability.

🔥Fire Safety During Harvest

Harvest time is the most important part of the agricultural calendar. While these dry conditions are the most favourable to bring in the grain crop, conditions are extreme - so doing it safely and avoiding a wildfire is a priority.

What can farmers do to be fire safe when combining and baling in these extremely dry conditions?

🚜 ensure that machinery is maintained and clean of harvest debris build up
🧯 carry a fire extinguisher with each piece of equipment
💧 have a source of water at the ready (e.g., spray truck/tank full of water)
🚜 have a set of discs connected to a tractor at the ready to create a fire break

These practices can help contain a fire within the field and avoid it spreading to the tree line and beyond.

TO REPORT A WILDFIRE, CALL 911.
Have a safe harvest everyone!
