Nourish & Develop

Nourish & Develop The Nourish and Develop Foundation is a charitable non-profit organization, located in Cannington, Ontario. Established in 2000.

We are an organization where people can receive more than just access to food and services. Over the past few years, TNDF has grown in more ways than one. We have added to our dedicated team of staff, recruited and trained new volunteers, increased and improved community programs, and researched and implicated new strategies to strengthen our community. Today, we support families and individuals t

hrough our Food Pantry and service hundreds more through our community programming. Providing access to good food is just the beginning of our work. We believe that improving lives and building stronger communities is the result of working together with a sense of purpose. Our programs are developed to improve self-reliance and include projects that strengthen the community.

🍔 THE HEART OF THE EVENT 🍔

The BBQ brought everyone together—we even sold out of burgers! It was the place to be, sharing a meal, enjoying great music, and connecting with neighbours.

Community Meals are at the core of what we do, and seeing so many people gather around food made the night truly special.

🥬 Fun fact: the lettuce for our burger toppings was grown right inside our dining room Tower Garden—local doesn’t get better than that!

💛 If you believe in the power of shared meals and connection, please support our work at tndf.ca/together so we can keep creating these moments year‑round.

💛 We’re incredibly grateful to the United Way of Durham Region for supporting our Express Bag program through the Tom Simmons Annual Grant.

This $9,500 contribution is already making a meaningful difference, helping ensure we can continue showing up for community members when they need it most.

Express Bags were designed for urgent moments - when someone reaches out for food support and simply can’t wait. Each bag provides 1–2 days of shelf-stable meals, offering immediate relief while connecting individuals and families to longer-term supports.

Since launching the pilot earlier this year, we’ve seen just how impactful this simple, responsive approach can be for both community members and our team.

If you’re facing an urgent situation and can’t wait for the next available shopping appointment or porch pick-up, Express Bags are available and do not count toward your monthly points. Learn more: www.tndf.ca/nourish-house-food-bank/

Thank you again to the United Way for recognizing the value of practical, community-rooted solutions. 🌱

🏠 MORE THAN A FOOD BANK 🏠

It was such a pleasure welcoming neighbours into Nourish House Food Bank for tours and meaningful conversations about how this space supports our community—because TNDF is truly so much more than a place to access food.

Getting nourished, finding support, and growing community is only possible because we’re not doing this work alone. The strength of our community and the support of our incredible partners are what make North Durham so special 💛

Take the Brock Township Fire Department and Cannington Foodland, for example, who generously hosted a food drive on our behalf during Open House. We couldn’t be more grateful for their collaboration—and for the 76 lbs of donations they helped collect.

Every contribution brings us closer to our 2026 goal of 20,000 lbs. We’re currently at 12,390 lbs, and every donation truly makes a difference.

💛 If you’d like to help keep our shelves stocked and our programs running, visit www.tndf.ca/donate to learn how to get involved. Whether it’s donating, volunteering, shopping our Amazon Wishlist, or hosting a food drive, your support means so much to us—and to the people we serve.

Thanks, Jess and Kam, for sharing your delicious Blackened Chicken Caesar Salad recipe with us—it was a HIT at Community Lunch today!

Their recipe was submitted as part of Made to Share, our community recipe project that celebrates the stories, flavours, and people who gather around our table. If you have a recipe that means something to you, we’d love to help share it with the community.

Submit your recipe at tndf.ca/community-kitchen or fill out a recipe card at reception. Let’s keep this place full of good food and shared stories 💛

Today's stunning Made to Share meal was inspired by our very own Executive Director 🌟

Jess was one of the first to share some recipes with us, and today, our Community Kitchen team turned her Blackened Chicken Loaded Caesar Salad into a Caesar Salad Bar so you can build your plate just the way you like it.

"This recipe came about because my partner and I love Caesar salad and kept layering it up until it became a really hearty meal."

We’re always looking for ways to make these meals feel more connected to the people who gather here. That’s what Made to Share is all about—recipes from our community, shared back at the table.

If you have a dish that you love to make, we’d love to see it. Submitted recipes are added to our growing online collection, and one is featured each month at Community Lunch or Breakfast.

You can submit at tndf.ca/community-kitchen, or fill out a recipe card when you’re here.

Open House Recap ✨ Part 4

🥕 MARKET HIGHLIGHTS 🥕

From our seedling sale and tasting table to TNDF merch and fresh produce, our Mobile Food Market was full of goodness at Open House! Many of the seedlings and much of the produce were generously donated or sourced locally by farms and community members—including Forsythe Family Farms, Willowtree Farms, and Hy‑Hope. We’re so grateful to be part of such a strong local food system.

✨ You can visit the Market again this week:

📅 Tuesday, June 16
⏰ 3:30–5:30 PM
📍 Nourish & Develop (16 York St, Cannington)

📅 Wednesday, June 17
⏰ 11:30 AM–12:30 PM — Maple Glen (36 Church St, Sunderland)
⏰ 4:30–5:30 PM — Woodville Legion (126 Queen St, Woodville)

📅 Thursday, June 18
⏰ 11:30 AM–12:30 PM — Gillespie Gardens (75 9 Mile Rd, Beaverton)
⏰ 4:30–5:30 PM — Knox Presbyterian (Regional Rd 51, Gamebridge)

🌱 The seedlings we didn’t move at Open House are already being planted in our community garden! We’re always looking for volunteers to help at the Market or in the garden—if you’d like to get involved, fill out a volunteer application at www.tndf.ca/get-involved.

Popping on here to thank Durham Farm and Rural Family Resources for their donation! 🍿

We’re so grateful to receive this extra bag of popcorn from The Roxy Theatres of Uxbridge, generously passed along by DFRFR! What could have gone unused is now becoming a lil treat we’re excited to share with clients.

Moments like these remind us that community support, in all its forms, helps create comfort, joy, and connection. We’re incredibly thankful for the care and generosity that continues to surround our work 💛

If you’re interested in supporting TNDF, we’d love to connect. Learn more about donating or getting involved at www.tndf.ca/donate.

💛 We’re so grateful to share that The Nourish and Develop Foundation has been selected as a 2026 EconoLease Community Grant recipient, one of just 12 organizations across Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to receive this support.

Thanks to EconoLease (the Canadian branch of Australia-based Silver Chef), we’ve received a generous grant valued at $5,000 for essential kitchen equipment + $1,250 in funding. Support like this helps us continue showing up with care, dignity, and connection—one shared meal at a time 🙌

Keep an eye out for some shiny (new-to-us) upgrades like a meat slicer, immersion blender, electric food warmer, sandwich press, and soup warmer at our next community meal, and a big thank you again for investing in small, community-rooted organizations like TNDF 💛
