Reports of issues with roads, power, water, or infrastructure, should be made through https://canmore.ca/town-hall/contact-the-town-of-canmore and not through social media. Town of Canmore may participate in online community group discussions to provide clarity, correct misinformation, and to interact with Canmore residents. The communications department will read comments and participate in discussions when appropriate. We are a community that desires well-being for all individuals. We want to reconcile the past and build new relationships for the future. The Town of Canmore is located within Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta. In the spirit of respect, reciprocity and truth, we honour and acknowledge the Canmore area, known as “Chuwapchipchiyan Kudi Bi” (translated in Stoney Nakoda as “shooting at the willows”) and the traditional Treaty 7 territory and oral practices of the Îyârhe Nakoda (Stoney Nakoda) – comprised of the Bearspaw First Nation, Chiniki First Nation, and Wesley First Nation – as well as the Tsuut’ina First Nation and the Blackfoot Confederacy comprised of the Siksika, Piikani, Kainai. We acknowledge that this territory is home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis homeland. We acknowledge all Nations who live, work, and play and help us steward this land and honour and celebrate this territory. Yes, there will be detours and traffic impacts. No, we're not thrilled about them either. 🚧

This fall, we'll be completing bridge and culvert rehabilitation work at several locations across Canmore as part of the 2026 Bridge Asset Management Project.

This work helps keep our transportation and pedestrian infrastructure safe and reliable, while extending the lifespan of Town assets and reducing the need for more costly repairs in the future.

The following structures are included in the project:
📍 8 Street Bridge
📍 10 Street Bridge
📍 Two Bridges on Policeman's Creek Trail (from Canmore Collegiate High School toward downtown)
📍 Spring Creek Drive Bridge
📍 Spurline Policeman's Pond Bridge
📍 Silvertip Trail Culvert

Construction is anticipated between Sept. 21 and Oct. 25, 2026. Residents and visitors may experience temporary road, pathway and trail closures, detours, traffic impacts, increased construction traffic and noise near project sites while work is underway. Please follow all posted signage, closures and detour routes to help keep everyone safe.

Large infrastructure projects, just like this one, involve many moving parts, including weather and site conditions that can affect schedules. Canmore RCMP have located Peggy Bagshaw. Thank you to every person in this community for your care, concern and kindness as we worked to find her.

⚠️ MISSING PERSON ALERT (Sept. 10 4:10 p.m.)

Canmore RCMP are requesting assistance in locating a missing woman. Peggy Bagshaw, a 79-year-old visitor with Alzheimer's disease, was last seen in downtown Canmore at artsPlace at 2:30 p.m. Peggy has long, white hair, wears glasses, and is wearing a white hat and black puffy jacket. She is appoximately 5'6" and shuffles when she walks.

Police are asking the public to look out for Peggy and to contact RCMP at 310-RCMP immediately if found or seen.

If you'd like to book a trishaw ride, there's still time to do so until the first week of October (weather permitting). Our trained volunteers provide free rides for seniors with limited mobility, with space for two passengers to enjoy a scenic ride through Canmore for up to an hour.

We are introducing new traffic signage changes in South Canmore this week to help improve safety and support active transportation throughout the neighbourhood. 🚲

The changes respond to concerns raised by residents about speeding and increased traffic volumes, particularly during periods when drivers use South Canmore as an alternate route. The updated traffic controls are intended to encourage safer travel for everyone, including people walking, cycling, and driving.

So, if you're travelling through the area, please watch for new signage and follow posted traffic controls as everyone adjusts to the updated traffic patterns.

Join us on Friday, September 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Elevation Place for a free, hands-on event that connects you with practical ways to reduce waste, repair what you already own, and discover the local share and repair economy.

Things you can bring:
✅ Outdoor jackets, shells, and technical apparel for patching and zipper repairs
✅ Hiking boots, climbing shoes, running shoes, Birkenstocks, Blundstones, and other footwear for repair assessments
✅ Watches and jewelry for minor repairs, adjustments, cleaning, and battery replacements
✅ Clean clothing for alterations and simple repairs in the Sew & Share Room
✅ Unwanted or broken computers, laptops, monitors, and other electronics for recycling and refurbishment
✅ Clothing, shoes, and accessories for the Canmore Public Library Clothing Swap-O-Rama donation program

You'll also find bike maintenance advice, food preservation tips, upcycling activities, family-friendly crafts, the Library of Things, prizes, and much more.

🙋 We're looking for volunteers!

Help bring two activity stations to life:

Climbing Rope Upcycling Station: Help attendees transform retired climbing rope into coasters, placemats, and other useful items. Materials will be pre-cut and ready to go.

Family & Youth Craft Area: Assist with simple upcycling crafts such as toilet paper roll binoculars, egg carton caterpillars, and coffee filter flowers.

As a thank-you, volunteers will receive a $25 honorarium and a pizza dinner, with vegetarian and gluten-free options available.

🚧 Phase 3 Construction of the Bow Valley Community Fireguard begins September 14 🚧

Wildfire remains the top-rated risk to life, property, and critical infrastructure in the Bow Valley. That's why the Town of Canmore, alongside our regional partners, is beginning the third and final phase of construction on the Bow Valley Community Fireguard. This phase will extend from the Rundle Forebay toward Pigeon Mountain and Dead Man's Flats, helping protect current and future residential areas while increasing our community's resilience to wildfire.

To learn more about the project, meet the team, and ask questions about construction, trail impacts, wildlife habitat enhancements, and wildfire mitigation, join us at our upcoming Community Information Night:

We'll provide some food, so grab a drink and come chat with the project team.

This phase of the project will include both harvesting and thinning work and, in partnership with Alberta Parks, the creation of wildlife habitat enhancement patches. These habitat areas will support wildlife movement through an important ecological corridor while also contributing to wildfire risk reduction.

⚠️ Please leave flagging tape in place ⚠️

We've recently received reports of people removing flagging tape within the project area. This tape is an important tool used by project crews to identify work areas, trails, operational boundaries, and trees that have been marked for retention. In some cases, flagging is being used to identify trees that are being protected specifically for wildlife habitat values. Removing flagging tape creates challenges for crews and can affect project planning and environmental protection measures.

If you see flagging tape in the project area, please leave it in place.

Missed the passenger rail information session in July? Here's another opportunity to learn more.

The Government of Alberta has completed its Passenger Rail Master Plan, a long-term assessment of the feasibility of passenger rail service across the province.

Developed with input from Albertans, municipalities, Indigenous communities, community organizations, and industry representatives, the plan identifies potential passenger rail connections that could benefit Albertans over the next 30 years.

Those interested in learning more about the plan's highlights and key findings are invited to attend a virtual information session hosted by the Government of Alberta on Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
