Home Ignition Zones often overlap, & we talk about this a lot in the Neighbourhood Recognition Program as well as personal Home Ignition Zone Assessments.
The most important thing to note about these overlapping zones: Only worry about what you can control!!!
The most important thing when preparing your home for wildfire resiliency, are the flammability & condition of the materials used on the structure & the immediate zone around your home to 1.5 meters.

Wildfire evacuations in BC are growing more common as our wildfire seasons are getting more & more intense.

Canal Flats FireSmart & BC Wildfire Service will be hosting an OPEN HOUSE on Community Wildfire Preparedness Day this Saturday May 4th.
FREE Hotdogs & Burgers from 11AM-4PM while supplies last.

FireSmart promotes cross-training Structural Firefighters in wildland firefighting practices. This enhances efforts in a wildland urban interface fire.
Canal Flats Fire Rescue has begun the process of completing our very own Wildfire Structure Protection Unit. This weekend we will be hosting a course including Fairmont, Windermere & Edgewater Fire Departments in learning about the tools and best practices associated with this unit.
On Sunday you will see us using the sprinklers & pumps in protecting our critical infrastructure during a mock exercise!

The Wildfire Resiliency and Training Summit was an amazing experience, from the panellists extensive knowledge to the break out sessions. So much to reflect on. Two main takeaways include insights on the FireSmart landscaping hub, & the education program versatility. Looking forward to implementing some of these practices into our community!

The FireSmart Educate & Paint Event was a success! Huge thank you to Leslie Cartwright for the amazing tutorial, but especially for drawing the boot on the canvas for us all! & The Village Social for hosting us and for the beautiful & tasty charcuterie board.

As a thank you to residents who participated in our FireSmart program last year, we hosted an educate & paint event where we painted a FireSmart plant and discussed the different programs within The Canal Flats FireSmart Program.

Looking forward to what this program will be in coming years, the support from the community is overwhelming!

This Neighborhood Recognition Program Event will be hosted on April 13th.
The goal for this event is educational based and community oriented.
Join us for an Information Session, Light mitigation and neighborhood BBQ at your Champion, Jennifer Noble's house at 11AM. Dress for the weather as this will be an outdoor event.
Big Horn Sheep Lane will be hosting an event later this month!
