We've all been there. Running out of the house in a rush to start your day and THEN remembering it's Collection Day. And yet, taking those few extra seconds to make sure your cart is placed correctly makes waste collection run smoothly for everyone and helps prevent a missed collection. These automated collection trucks are impressive, but they aren't flawless. A few simple placement tips will help ensure your cart gets picked up on collection day:

Leave 1 m between carts and other objects ↔️The truck's mechanical arm needs some elbow room to grab and lift your cart. When carts are too close together—or beside vehicles, fences, or utility boxes—the arm may not be able to safely reach them.

Place carts on a flat level surface📐We all know Alberta winds have a sense of humour! Placing your cart on a flat surface helps prevent it from rolling away, tipping over, or just flat out escaping before collection or after.

Face the cart lid opening towards the street ➡️ The truck lifts and empties carts from a specific direction. Pointing the lid opening toward the street allows the cart to empty properly and helps prevent materials from getting caught inside. The crows may be happy if your cart still has some snacks attached, but you won't be. Trust us.

Do you have a damaged waste cart? Let us know by emailing us at [email protected]

Update on Ongoing Investigation Involving Student Social Media Content

The Camrose Police Service is providing an update regarding an ongoing investigation into concerning social media content involving students from a local high school.

Last week, police became aware of group chat messages involving several youth, occurring in the fall of 2025. Screenshots of these messages have since been widely circulated on social media. The content includes deeply concerning and harmful language directed at female high school students.

We recognize that members of our community—particularly students, families, and school staff—are feeling upset, frustrated, and concerned. These reactions are understandable. The safety, dignity, and well-being of all young people remains our highest priority.

This matter is being actively investigated. We are working closely with school administration and the school division to ensure a coordinated, thorough, and appropriate response. Individuals directly impacted, as well as those involved in the messages, have been identified, and supports have been put in place for all those affected.

Based on the information gathered to date, there is no indication that the individuals involved in the group chat were planning to carry out physical harm toward the female students listed in the
messages at the time they were exchanged, nor has any information been identified to suggest an ongoing or current risk of physical violence. While the language used, including references to the female students listed, is serious and concerning, the investigation continues to carefully assess all available information to ensure an accurate understanding of the situation.

Due to privacy laws that protect young people, and to safeguard both the integrity of the investigation and the well-being of those involved, we are limited in the details we can share publicly at this time. We understand the community’s desire for more information and share in the concern this situation has caused. We respectfully ask that the privacy and dignity of the young people involved be upheld. Please be assured that this matter is being taken very seriously and is being addressed through a comprehensive police investigation, school-based processes, and appropriate supports.

We are aware that from the outside it may appear that limited action is being taken. However, significant steps have already occurred behind the scenes, including investigative work, interventions, and supports for all affected parties.

We remind the public that sharing content, engaging in speculation, or targeting individuals online can cause further harm—particularly when youth are involved.

We strongly encourage any students who feel affected, unsafe, or targeted to speak with a trusted adult, school staff, or contact police. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is asked to come forward.

Parents and guardians are also encouraged to have open conversations with their children about respectful communication, consent, and responsible online behaviour.

We respect the right of students and community members to express their concerns in a peaceful and respectful manner.

We thank the community for its cooperation, understanding, and patience as we continue this work. Our shared goal is to ensure safe, respectful, and supportive learning environments for all students.
