Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate the Grand Opening at our Hastings Branch this morning. It was so lovely to hear Judy Colville talk about her mom, Jane Jones, after whom the new meeting room is named. So many members of the community contributed to our new vision for the Library and supported us in our expanded space with their ideas, time, and money. We appreciate all of you! Friends of the Hastings Library the Trent Hills Library Board of Directors, Hastings Revitalization Association,Hastings Hydro Fund, Northumberland United Way, Thalya Fortin Wild Fox and Hare, Patt McDowell’s students from last year at Hastings Public School, Hastings Historical Society If you weren’t able to be there today, please stop by and see what all the excitement is about. 🤗

Drop by the Campbellford Library during the month of September to check out the British Home Children display! British Home Child Day is observed annually on September 28 in Canada to honour the contributions and experiences of over 100,000 children sent from the UK between 1869 and 1948. These children were not brought to Canada for love or protection - they were sent to work on Canadian farms and in Canadian households. This is a significant part of the history of Canada and the United Kingdom, yet it is still vastly unknown. Today, it is estimated that over 4 million Canadians, or about 12% of the population, are descendants of British Home Children. Thanks to Marg Graham and Dianne Cosway for setting up this powerful display! Home Children Canada

Last week in Hastings was the final week of the Trent Hills Summer Library Camp. Special guest Art Gallery of Northumberland made pinch pots with the campers, and cooking class facilitator Shelley Steele got the kids practicing their knife skills in the kitchen while making veggie wraps. There were lots of trips to the park, games, books, and ice cream of course! As the summer fun wraps up we want to express our gratitude to our summer student Meagan Hay, who knocked this (new to us) summer program out of the park! What an organized, fun, responsible, independent, "cool as a cucumber" superstar Meagan was! Good luck to Meagan as she heads back to school this month and fingers crossed we'll get to work with her again next year!
