Throwback Thursday 🏅

Throwing it back to the Ontario Summer Games, where Mayor Jan had the honour of presenting gold medals to the Women’s and Men’s Soccer champions, as well as Archery gold medalists at Fountain Street Soccer Complex. Congratulations to all the athletes (and their dedicated families and coaches) for their hard work!

It was a fantastic event that showcased the incredible talent, sportsmanship, and community spirit that make the The City of Cambridge and the Ontario Summer Games so special. ⚽🏹🥇

This is exactly the kind of behind-the-scenes work that often goes unseen, but has a real impact on our community. Mayor Jan Liggett has championed collaborative efforts to address crime, improve public safety, and respond to challenges in our downtown cores. We're grateful to our partners at the Waterloo Regional Police Service for their continued commitment and for the important work they do every day to keep our community safe.

As our community continues to grow, so does the need for a stronger, more coordinated mental health and addictions system. We're calling for provincial action to:
âś… Fund transitional care services
âś… Expand youth mental health supports
âś… Develop a health-led framework for stabilization, treatment and recovery

Together, we can reduce pressure on hospitals, improve access to care, and help more people get the support they need, when they need it.

Today, Ontario’s Big City Mayors officially launched the – Reaction to Recovery campaign, urging the Province to take bold action on the addictions, mental health, and homelessness crisis facing communities across Ontario.

Mayor Jan Liggett proudly seconded the motion, advocating for increased access to recovery-based treatment, compassionate intervention, and a dedicated and appropriately funded ministry to address this crisis.

As the The City of Cambridge continues its advocacy at the Conference this week, we will continue pushing for the investments and partnerships needed to help people get the care and support they deserve.

“This is about families being kept whole; families that feel that their loved ones have the care they deserve.” – Mayor Jan Liggett

👏This is exactly the kind of support our local businesses need in uncertain economic times. We’re grateful that Doug Ford and the Province are taking meaningful steps to while investing in companies that create jobs and drive innovation right here in The City of Cambridge. Thank you to our MPPs MPP Jess Dixon, MPP Brian Riddell, and Mike Harris and Victor Fedeli for visiting Cambridge and recognizing the important role Shimco plays in the manufacturing sector.
