For years and years, it seems, you've been paying your insurance premiums in full and on time. After your accident, you were prompt in notifying the company, expecting help with the process, coverage for medical visits and treatment, and support while you recovered.

That doesn’t seem to be happening. As time passes, instead of feeling that your insurer is on your side, you may feel ignored on one hand and pushed or rushed on the other. Claim forms, paperwork, and legal language can make the whole system feel as if it is working against you rather than for you.

Having insurance, along with keeping up with automobile maintenance, has always felt like part of being a responsible citizen. Now the tone of the relationship may feel completely different, as if you are the one being treated as unreasonable for asking for help:

If you’re hurt, insurance can suddenly feel cold. Learn why it happens, common claim tactics, and simple steps to protect yourself without panic

The 24-month mark is where many Long-Term Disability claims get hit.
During the first part of your claim, the question is whether you can do your own job.
Around 24 months, the question usually changes to whether you can do any job that fits your background.
That is a major shift. And insurers often start preparing months before that date with more forms, updated job information, IMEs, and vocational reviews.
So if you are getting close to the 24-month mark, do not wait for the letter. Treat that timeline seriously.
The review often starts before the cutoff date does.

Ontario is no-fault. Yes, you may still be able to sue.
This surprises a lot of people.
They hear “Ontario is no-fault” and assume lawsuits are off the table.
Not necessarily.
In some cases, legal action may still be possible, especially where there are serious injuries, long-term impairment, or losses that accident benefits do not fully cover.
That is why “no-fault” is only part of the story.
It explains how certain benefits start.
It does not answer every question about what happens next.
And if you assume it does, you can miss important options.
Do not let one confusing phrase make decisions for you.

Well, I've got a car accident case. It's been around for a long time.

The woman is very seriously injured. She's had problems for decades. And the insurance company, of course, they don't want to help her.

So, we're doing a catastrophic impairment designation application. And the latest trend among insurance companies is even when you have them declared catastrophic under the legislation, in Ontario, the insurance companies are still denying treatment.

This is a new trend. It's unbelievable but that's what they're doing, and that's who they are.

In the weeks following your car accident, you’ve kept reading and hearing two phrases: 'accident benefits' and 'lawsuit.'

Not only are you unsure of the difference, you are confused as to why you are being told you must first go through your own insurance even though the other driver was clearly at fault in the accident.

Between claiming insurance accident benefits and filing a lawsuit, you are anxious to understand what each path would lead to in monetary terms. While you do not want to be unfair or greedy, neither would you want to face unpaid bills, loss of wages, or long-term pain.

Everyone keeps telling you that you have an accident benefits claim and maybe grounds for a lawsuit. Is there a way, you wonder, to receive help through both routes, receiving benefits from both your insurance company and the court system? You would like to be fair, but frankly, right now, you are simply overwhelmed:

Injured in an Ontario car accident? Learn the key differences between no-fault accident benefits and a lawsuit against the at-fault driver, and what each one covers.

Waiting for the Long-Term Disability denial letter is one of the worst things you can do.
By the time the termination letter arrives, the insurer may already have months of material in the file.
That is why early action matters. Keep copies of every form. Track symptoms, bad days, and recovery time. Make sure your medical notes match what you are saying.
A strong claim is built by consistency over time.
Do not wait until after the cutoff to get organized.

The first win is often a relief.
People think the biggest benefit of legal help is the final payout.
Sometimes the first real benefit is much simpler.
Relief that someone is dealing with the insurance company.
Relief that deadlines are being watched.
Relief that the paperwork is being handled properly.
Relief that someone can explain accident benefits and legal options in plain English.
That matters when you are injured.
Because the more confused you are, the easier it is to make rushed decisions.
And rushed decisions usually cost people later.
If the process feels heavier than your recovery, you do not have to carry it alone.
