It also means exploring programming that focus on gender-based violence prevention through topics such as health and wellness, bodily integrity, social activism, and empowerment.

Today, we’re excited to share a new educational opportunity!

SHE Builds is a new skilled trades and employment program created for women and gender-diverse survivors of gender-based violence in Waterloo Region.

It was designed by community leaders with survivors in mind. Participants have the unique opportunity to develop hands-on skills, build confidence, and connect with employers who have completed trauma-informed training.

And you won’t have to do it alone!
Participants can also access supports throughout the program, including mentorship, one-on-one support throughout and financial assistance with transportation and childcare if eligible.

The first cohort starts September 8, 2026, with additional cohorts starting later in the year.

The City Wasn't Built for Women… But what does that actually mean? 💡

Leslie Kern's Feminist City: Claiming Space in a Man-Made World opens with a simple, yet uncomfortable idea: the streets, transit systems, housing, and public spaces around us weren't designed with everyone in mind.

In June, YWCA Cambridge submitted a formal brief to the National Housing Council Review Panel on accessible housing for senior women and women with disabilities. Connecting directly to Kern’s argument that accessibility isn't just about ramps and doorways, it's about affordability, income security, and whether a city was ever designed to include you at all. To ensure your application is processed correctly, please follow these specific steps:

In partnership with YWCA Canada, the Dollars & Sense Program aims to improve financial literacy for low-income women and gender-diverse people. The project weaves financial literacy and empowerment activities to address participants’ unique needs and support their financial journeys. From financial education and counselling, to support navigating systems of identification, taxes, and benefits; the Dollars & Sense Program delivers free financial empowerment services, grounded in trauma-informed, anti-oppression practices.

Dollars & Sense is offered out of YWCA Cambridge’s community space, The W, located at 20 Dickson St, unit 101. Members of our senior leadership team were thrilled to welcome YWCA Canada colleagues, Aisha and Mandy to YWCA Cambridge this week! Mandy and Aisha came to learn firsthand about the kind of work YWCA Cambridge does, from our high quality licensed child care and summer camps, gender-based violence prevention programming, and women's employment programming, to our 24/7 women's emergency homeless shelter and the wraparound supports we provide.

No YWCA is exactly the same and that is exactly because of our shared mission to provide responsive programs and services that meet the changing needs of women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals in our own distinct communities.

Thank you, Mandy and Aisha, for coming and allowing us to share a glimpse into the work we do here in Cambridge and North Dumfries!
