Make sure you know what to do in case of a fire

Moving into a new place for school is exciting. Remember to plan your way out.

Students have so many things to think about when moving into a new place but fire safety matters too. Before a smoke or carbon monoxide alarm sounds, plan two ways out of every room and plan a meeting spot outside which saves critical time in an emergency.

Fire Safety Plan: Review fire safety information provided by your landlord.

Bedrooms: Make sure windows and doors open easily
Hallways/Stairs: Keep exits clear of boxes, bags, shoes and clutter.
Roommates: Agree on a meeting spot outside and make sure everyone knows the plan.
Practice: Walk the escape routes so you don’t have to figure it out under pressure.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (Health Unit) is advising residents to be cautious after a harmful algae bloom, also known as blue-green algae, was observed in Callander Bay, and confirmed through testing samples taken on August 10, 2026, by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks.

The Municipality of Callander is inviting residents to attend an Open House for the Draft Official Plan.

An Official Plan serves as the community's roadmap for future growth, development, and land use. It helps guide decisions about housing, infrastructure, economic development, environmental protection, and more.

We've already heard from residents throughout this process and community feedback has helped inform this draft. Now we'd like to hear what you think of the latest version.
