🏇 Alberta-bred and built to keep going.

Great to see CTHS Alberta sale grad, Avella, bred right here in Alberta by C. W. Matier, continuing to shine beyond the racetrack! From her Thoroughbred roots to competing at the Twirl N Whirl Spring Fling, she’s a great example of the versatility and durability of Alberta-breds.

Wishing Sherri Goldsbury and Avella continued success—proof that Alberta-breds can excel in any arena. 💪

Thank you to The Western Thoroughbred for the spotlight on this Alberta partnership!

Alberta-bred Thoroughbreds proving their versatility once again!
CTHS Alberta sale graduate “Ella” (Sixty Square) is now competing successfully in barrel racing and pole bending.
Thank you to The Western Thoroughbred for sharing another great Alberta bred OTTB partnership!

Feature:

Everyone meet Sixty Square, aka “Ella.” Ella is a thirteen-year-old mare bred by Don R. Gibb in Alberta. She is by graded stakes winner Square Eddie and out of Sixy Devil, by Devil’s Bag. Her dam is a full-sister to Devil His Due, winner of more than $3.9 million on the track. Ella’s pedigree also includes Smart Strike, El Gran Senor, Halo and Raise a Cup. She made four starts and earned $1,091 on the track. Her best effort was a second place finish in a four-furlong Maiden race at Grand Prairie.

Ella made her final start in 2017. She retired from racing due to injury. She is now owned by Jordana Savard and fully rehabilitated. She competes in barrel racing and pole bending. She places consistently in the 1D and 2D with Jordana and her daughter! We love to see well-bred racehorses like Ella excel at different careers!

If you would like to see your Thoroughbred featured on our page, send us a message! Please include your horse’s Jockey Club registered name, quality photos, and information about their off-track career. Note that horses with a body condition score of 3 or less will not be posted.

"We developed the ID My Thoroughbred app to make identification simple and accessible while also strengthening the industry’s ability to track and understand where Thoroughbreds are throughout their lives,” said Kristin Werner, deputy general counsel and director of Industry Initiatives, The Jockey Club. “Knowing the location of Thoroughbreds that are no longer racing or breeding helps the industry strengthen aftercare efforts and promotes accountability and public trust in our sport.”

In addition to identifying Thoroughbreds, the app is integrated with Thoroughbred Connect so a user can indicate if a horse is in need of assistance or if they are willing to provide assistance for a horse.
“Thoroughbred Connect is a fantastic resource that connects a horse with someone who is willing to help care for it,” Werner said. “You can also access Thoroughbred Connect through Interactive Registration at registry.jockeyclub.com.”

The ID My Thoroughbred app is available for free through Google Play or the App Store.

The Jockey Club today released the ID My Thoroughbred app, which allows users to access Thoroughbred information using a microchip number: bit.ly/3MGWYSB
