Who's still not at the table? 💛

A new scoping review from the AbSPORU Patient Engagement Team looked at 43 studies on recruiting diverse voices into Patient and Family Advisory Councils. The finding that stopped me: while 79% of studies focused on race and ethnicity, disability was barely mentioned — and not one study addressed people with lived experience of addiction, homelessness, or incarceration.

If we're not asking who's missing, we keep rebuilding the same table.

The review's prescription: build relationships before you recruit, state the accommodations out loud on the invitation itself, and share real leadership — let members chair the meetings and set the agenda.

University of Warwick researchers tracked 137 adults with chronic pain across two weeks and found something striking: moments of mental defeat predicted sharper focus on pain later in the day — even after accounting for stress, mood, and pain severity itself.
