Once again, Trend Law Firm celebrates a proud milestone. Approximately one month after our last success, another internationally trained lawyer has emerged from our firm as a member of the Alberta Bar making it two in a row. The sense of fulfillment is immense.

On February 18,2026,we warmly welcome Vijay Singh Dhaliwal. Patient, humble, and deeply empathetic.Vijay first walked into the Trend Law office one lovely afternoon seeking articles.
I will admit my initial response was a firm no, I am not hiring.Encouraged by the reaction of my then employee, I reconsidered. That decision proved to be the right one.

Today, I stand as a proud principal. Under my tutelage, Vijay met every challenge with dedication and integrity, and his success is richly deserved. I could not be prouder of his journey.

At our firm, giving back is not just something we do it is part of who we are.
Over the years, we have had the privilege of welcoming articling students, practicum students, and aspiring lawyers into our practice. Watching them grow into confident, capable professionals has been one of the most rewarding parts of our journey.
Today, we are especially proud of Alex, who joined us as a practicum student and is now our Assistant. Her dream is to become a lawyer, and we support her 100%. Her dedication, curiosity, and heart for service remind us why mentorship matters.
We have mentored several students who are now thriving in practice, and it's been an honour to help usher them into our esteemed profession. Their success is our joy.

Busy day as Duty Counsel today, and honestly, I almost called off my assignment. But life has a funny way of reminding you why you show up.
I assisted someone in Court this morning no gratification expected,just doing my job, nothing more. I already had a full cup of tea and a jar of water, so when he offered to get me coffee, I politely declined. A few minutes later, he came back anyway with a fresh, warm cup of coffee.
That small act of kindness turned a hectic day into a memorable one.
To that gentleman: thank you. Your appreciation meant more than you know.

Listening to Parents Matters in Child Apprehension Cases. When a child is taken into care, most people assume the system has all the information it needs. In reality, that is often not the case. While child safety must always come first, parents’ voices are frequently missing from the conversation and that matters more than many realize. Parents facing child‑protection involvement are often navigating fear, trauma, and confusion. When they are not given a meaningful opportunity to explain their circumstances or challenges, decisions may be based on incomplete information. Listening to parents is not about ignoring risk it is about understanding it properly. When parents are heard, supported, and clearly informed about what is expected of them, they are better positioned to make positive changes. This benefits not only parents, but children too. Safe reunification, when possible, depends on communication, fairness, and respect. A child‑centered system is strongest when it listens to the whole family.
