A great evening celebrating the regional business community!

Reeve Sunny Samra joined business leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members at the 2026 Airdrie Regional Business Awards, hosted by the Airdrie Regional Chamber of Commerce.

With Small Business Week also taking place, it was a fitting opportunity to recognize the hard work, creativity, and determination of the people behind our local businesses.

Strong businesses help build strong communities. Across Airdrie and Rocky View County, businesses create opportunities, support local initiatives, and help shape the unique character of our region.

Rocky View County Council has selected its Reeve and Deputy Reeve for the coming year!

At its annual organizational meeting, Council elected Division 6 Councillor Sunny Samra to serve as Reeve and Division 4 Councillor Samanntha Wright as Deputy Reeve.

This marks Councillor Samra's third term as Reeve and Councillor Wright's second term as Deputy Reeve. Congratulations to both on their appointments!

The Reeve serves as head of Council and chairs Council meetings. Each year, councillors select a Reeve and Deputy Reeve to serve one-year terms.

Council also made appointments to several boards and committees, including councillors and public members, for terms ranging from one to four years.

From a small recycling centre to a growing waste and recycling hub.

The Springbank Transfer Site has come a long way. Since becoming a transfer site in April 2025, it has expanded to give residents more convenient options for recycling, diverting and safely disposing of everyday materials.

Today, the site accepts electronics, batteries, paint, lightbulbs, propane tanks, fire extinguishers, used oil and filters, antifreeze, tires, grain bags, plastic twine and organic food waste. Household and bulk waste disposal is also available.

This Waste Reduction Week, we are celebrating the growth of local services that help keep more materials in use – and out of the landfill.

Before visiting, check the Waste Guide App or County website for accepted materials, preparation requirements and applicable fees.

The flags at all Rocky View County facilities have been lowered to half-mast to acknowledge Saturday's tragedy at the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Base in Wainwright, Alberta.

Four service members lost their lives and dozens more are seriously wounded after a large fire swept through the base.

"The nation is in mourning for those brave members of our Armed Forces whom we have lost. And I have asked the flags on all federal buildings to be flown at half-mast to honour them," said Prime Minister Mark Carney.

"We are praying for the wounded. And we stand in solidarity and compassion for the families, friends, and colleagues of all those affected by this tragedy."
