Happy 60th Annual International Literacy Day!

Congratulations to Benjamin on receiving a $500 bursary from TEPF! The TEPF Trades Careers Apprenticeship Bursary is available to students for each level of apprenticeship education, to a maximum of four bursaries (total of $2,000).

While attending M.E. LaZerte High School in Edmonton, Benjamin completed the off-campus TEPF Electrical program at Electrical Industry Training Centres Of Alberta / IBEW Local 424 Union, where he gained valuable hands-on experience and developed new skills that helped prepare him for the world of work.

Benjamin first learned about the program during a career day presentation at his school and was excited to explore the opportunities available in the trades. He quickly discovered how much he enjoyed the hands-on learning and the chance to build practical skills. Today, Benjamin is registered as a 1st-year Electrical Apprentice and is ready to begin his journey toward becoming a Red Seal Journeyman Electrician. He says the skills and experiences he gained through the program were incredibly helpful in securing employment, and he would recommend the program to any student considering a career in the skilled trades.

Congratulations, Benjamin! We’re excited to see where your skilled trades journey takes you.

Pencils sharpened. Tools ready. A new school year is here! Whether students are opening textbooks, picking up power tools or learning a new skill for the first time, September is all about new opportunities to learn, grow and start building what comes next.

At TEPF, we believe every learner deserves access to educational opportunities and the tools they need to succeed. With the support of our partners, we provide literacy programs in schools and hands-on skilled trades training for high school students across Alberta.

As students head back to class, we also want to recognize the teachers, school staff and other educators who encourage, guide and create opportunities for young people every day. We’re grateful to work alongside so many dedicated education partners and wish you all a rewarding and successful school year.

Here’s to a great year of learning, discovery and new possibilities.

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Maher, a longtime friend and supporter of TEPF.

Over the years, Peter generously supported our work in many ways, from donating auction items to emceeing our Legends for Learners Charity Golf Tournament and joining us on the course as one of our Legends. His warmth, generosity and willingness to lend his support made him a valued part of the TEPF community.

Peter will be greatly missed, and we are grateful for the many years of friendship and support he shared with our organization. We extend our sincere condolences to Peter’s family, friends and all those who knew and loved him.
