The Centre for Newcomers’ Case Management and Integration Services teams recently came together to strengthen collaboration, build meaningful partnerships, and identify new opportunities to enhance the support we provide to newcomers and the communities we serve.

The gathering was also an opportunity to foster teamwork, strengthen workplace culture, and build connections across teams. By sharing knowledge, experiences, and ideas, staff explored ways to work more effectively together, create a stronger sense of belonging within the organization, and ensure that our services remain responsive to the diverse needs of newcomers.

Through continued collaboration and a shared commitment to community building, the teams are working together to create more inclusive, connected, and supportive communities where newcomers can thrive.

CFN citizenship classes in welcomed a full auditorium of enthusiastic Canadian permanent residents 🇨🇦 eager to take the next step in their journey toward citizenship.

Through engaging lessons, discussions, and plenty of encouragement, learners explored what it means to become a Canadian citizen🍁 They prepared for the citizenship test while building their knowledge of Canada’s history, values, democratic institutions, rights, and responsibilities. Just as importantly, the classes created a welcoming space where newcomers could learn together, share experiences, ask questions, and celebrate their progress📚✨

A big shout-out to the Centre for Newcomers settlement team and Jane Morgan for making these sessions possible. Their dedication, energy, and support helped make citizenship preparation both informative and fun🫎🎉Congratulations to all the learners for their hard work—we’re cheering you on as you continue this exciting journey toward Canadian citizenship! 🇨🇦🍁

A Magical Reading Adventure at CFN Daycare! 🚐📚✨ On August 18, the Little Red Reading House Van rolled into CFN Daycare, bringing stories, smiles, and plenty of reading fun! The colourful van transformed the daycare’s reading corner into a cozy, magical space where children and their parents enjoyed two engaging stories from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m🌈👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

The children were thrilled to explore the van’s cozy reading nooks—and each child received a special book to take home and enjoy with their family🎁📚

It was an afternoon filled with imagination, curiosity, and wonderful family moments. The visit helped inspire a love of books, storytelling, and early literacy while creating memories that will last a lifetime💕✨

A big thank-you to the Little Red Reading House team for creating such a warm and welcoming reading experience📖🚐

The Centre for Newcomers helps fuel Calgary's economic engine by helping newcomers thrive — and help Calgary thrive because of them. We equip newcomers with the skills, language, and supports to succeed in the workforce and in their communities, and we work with employers, industry, and partners to integrate the talent and contribution they bring. Newcomers help build Calgary. CFN helps build newcomers.

🏀🍦🎶 Basketball, ice cream, music, games, and giving back — the perfect way to kick off another school year! 🎒✨

CFN’s 4th Annual Youth Basketball Tournament brought together youth, families, community partners, local businesses, and supporters from across Greater Forest Lawn for an unforgettable day filled with connection, celebration, and community spirit! 🙌🏽

In partnership with the City of Calgary – Your Local Government Sports Hub, we were thrilled to host this year’s tournament at the Bob Bahan Aquatic Centre. From basketball action to free open swim, the Sports Hub helped create even more opportunities for youth and families to stay active, have fun, and build confidence in and out of the gym! 🏊🏽‍♀️🏀

Made possible through the Good Places Foundation Fund, this grassroots event showcased local small businesses, youth-focused activities, and community partners — including The Bridge Catering — all coming together to create a day by the community, for the community. 💙

A huge shoutout to Righteous Gelato for keeping everyone cool with delicious vegan and dairy-free treats! 🍨😋 And thank you to DJ Frvnz for bringing the beats and keeping the energy high all day long! 🎧🔥

The celebration didn’t stop at the court. As part of our second year supporting returning students, nearly 500 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed to youth throughout Greater Forest Lawn — helping local students start the school year feeling supported, prepared, and ready to learn📚🎒

Special thanks to MLA Lizette Tejada for generously donating backpacks and school supplies for local youth, and heartfelt appreciation to Councillor for Ward 9 Harrison Clark’s Community Fund for helping make this celebration so special for youth and families💛

This is what community looks like: showing up, creating opportunities, and reminding young people that they belong🫶🏽✨
