CAN-TF2 was proud to once again take part in the annual Tactical Days at the Military Museum on August 14 &15. This event gave visitors a closer look at some of the specialized equipment and skills our team brings to complex emergencies.

Tactical Days also provided a great opportunity for our members to connect with the community and share what Heavy Urban Search and Rescue is all about. We enjoyed spending time alongside other partner organizations including the military, and emergency response.

Thank you to the Military Museum for having us, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello and learn more about CAN-TF2. A thank you as well to our members who volunteered their time throughout the weekend.

Members of CAN-TF2 are taking their technical rescue skills to new heights this week!

Our rescue technicians are training with Valor Rescue in Urban Rigging & Rescue, building advanced skills for complex rescue operations involving buildings, bridges, towers, and other challenging environments.

Continuous training helps keep our team ready when specialized rescue capabilities are needed.

Recently our CAN-TF2 members sharpened their vehicle extrication skills during an intensive hands-on training course. Working through realistic exercises, members practiced vehicle stabilization, patient access, extrication techniques, and team coordination using specialized rescue equipment. The training emphasized the importance of communication, precision and safety, both for the people being rescued and our members.

CAN-TF2 was pleased to participate in this regional exercise last week. Opportunities like this allow agencies to work together, strengthen partnerships and practice coordination in a realistic environment. Thanks to the organizers and all participating agencies for the collaboration.

🚧On June 22, members of Special Areas Regional Emergency Management Partnership (SA-REMP) took part in a legislated functional exercise designed to test how local and regional agencies work together during a complex, scalable emergency event.

❗Municipal partners including the Village of Consort, Empress, Veteran, and Youngstown; the Towns of Hanna and Oyen; and the M.D. of Acadia—responded to simulated incidents within their own communities while coordinating regionally to manage resources and maintain clear communication across organizations. The exercise brought together key external partners such as AEMA, AHS, ATCO Electric, Canada Task Force 2, FCSS, RCMP; whose participation helped strengthen relationships that are critical during real emergency responses.

🤝The structure of the SA-REMP allows communities to navigate the complex nature of responding to emergencies in a remote/rural setting; where the sharing of resources, expertise, and a unified approach is essential to protecting the people of our region and the place we live, work, and play.

This weekend, members of CAN-TF2 were proud to participate in the Spruce Meadows Salute to First Responders event.

Over two days, our teams connected with members of the public, showcased specialized Urban Search and Rescue equipment, and shared information about the training, partnerships and capabilities that support our response to emergencies across the Alberta and Canada.

Visitors had the opportunity to meet members of our canine team, including Peggy and Hades, who quickly became fan favourites. Peggy even received a new stuffed horse from ATCO , a fitting souvenir from a weekend at Spruce Meadows! A few of our members took the unique opportunity to snap a photo in the Barbie box photo booth.

Thank you to Spruce Meadows, STARS, ATCO, our emergency services partners, and everyone who stopped by to visit. We appreciate every opportunity to connect with our community and share the work CAN-TF2 members do to remain ready for deployment

Training in a variety of environments helps our search canines stay ready for real-world missions. Last weekend our team trained at Heritage Park, using the site’s unique buildings, streetscapes and settings to challenge both handlers and dogs in realistic search scenarios.
