This year, the need for support has continued to rise. This year, 1,335 families reached out for support through our 24/7 helpline. Every day, our shelter, wrap‑around supports, and housing teams work to ensure families have a safe place to sleep and the stability they need to move forward.

For almost 30 years, Inn from the Cold has supported families in finding stability during times of crisis through prevention and diversion, emergency family shelter, and supportive housing. We remain Alberta’s largest family-based shelter — and this work is only possible because of people like you.

On International Charity Day, help us make a meaningful difference for children and their families. Your support strengthens our community and creates lasting change.

Meet our Volunteer of the Month: Candice!

Candice has been volunteering with Inn from the Cold for nearly 20 years, beginning long before The INN had its own building. She first volunteered alongside her son, Dylan, sister, Suzanne, and mother, Joan, serving meals at St. Michael's Church. Today, she continues that legacy of service with her nephew, Cayden, making volunteering a meaningful family tradition that spans generations.

For Candice, volunteering has always been about giving back to the community and creating positive change through small acts of kindness. One of the most rewarding parts of her experience has been building connections with the individuals and families who access The INN's services. "Getting to know their stories, sharing conversations, and creating a sense of trust and connection has been incredibly meaningful."

Over the years, volunteering has also shaped Candice's perspective. "It has taught me to be more compassionate, open-minded and grateful, and to never judge someone based on their circumstances." Her experience has reinforced the importance of community and the value of having a safe, caring place for families to turn to during difficult times.

Candice, thank you for your nearly two decades of dedication, compassion and service. The impact you've made on our community, and the example you've set for your family, is truly inspiring.

Breaking news: Inn from the Cold has officially been taken over by poster board, paint pens and glitter. 🏳️‍🌈✨

Today, our team gathered for our annual pride parade sign-making party, turning an afternoon "chore" into a fun team-building event filled with music, creativity and good vibes.

The signs are drying all over the office, and while they'll be parade-ready by Sunday, we're pretty sure the glitter is here to stay.

We're excited to join this Sunday's Calgary Pride parade and celebrate a community where everyone belongs. If you're watching the parade, give us a wave. We'll be the colourful group carrying handmade signs and probably leaving a small trail of glitter behind us. 💙

When many people think about housing instability, they don't always picture families. But the reality is that more families in Calgary are struggling to make ends meet.

In 2025/26, 1,335 families reached out to The INN's 24/7 helpline for support.

These numbers remind us that housing instability can affect anyone. Together, we can help ensure families have access to the support, resources and stability they need to thrive.

The Rolling Revelry Charity Lawn Bowling Tournament was right up our alley — and we couldn’t be more grateful. Thank you to The Alberta New Home Warranty Program Group of Companies for hosting a day that truly bowled us over. Their generosity, along with all the incredible teams who came out to play, helped raise an amazing $17,500 for Inn from the Cold.

Our team, The Lawn and the Restless, had a ball out there. Whether we were rolling true or sending the occasional wide one into the weeds, the spirit of the day never wavered. Every end played and every bowl delivered helped support families in Calgary who are working toward stability, independence, and brighter futures.

To everyone who stepped onto the green, cheered from the sidelines, or helped make this event possible — thank you. You’ve helped keep families on a steady path, and that’s a win worth celebrating.

Here’s to community, compassion, and rolling together for good. 💚

Families from The INN’s Indigenous Engagement program recently spent two powerful days on the land at Blackfoot Crossing Historical Site. Through cultural teachings, land-based learning, and time together in a traditional teepee, families deepened their connection to Blackfoot history, identity, and community.

For many, this overnight camp offered a meaningful chance to reconnect with culture in a way that supports healing, belonging, and wellbeing. Children learned about the buffalo, the role of warriors, and the values that continue to guide Blackfoot ways of knowing. Parents and caregivers shared stories, laughter, and moments of reflection that strengthened family bonds.

Experiences like this matter. They help Indigenous families feel grounded, supported, and seen — and they reinforce our commitment to culturally safe, community‑centred care at The INN. To learn more about our Indigenous programs, visit https://innfromthecold.org/indigenousprograms/

🌟 Employee Feature: Meet Lisa, Lead Finance & Operations

If you’ve ever wondered how Inn from the Cold keeps its financial gears running smoothly, meet the woman behind the magic: Lisa, our Lead Finance & Operations — problem solver, process streamliner, and proud ranch girl at heart.

💡 A Natural Fixer of “Pain Points”
Lisa finds the most satisfaction in collaborating with colleagues to untangle challenges and build solutions that actually make life easier. For her, success looks like smoother workflows, reduced stress, and a team that feels supported.

And if you think finance work ends when you hand something in? Lisa wants you to know: that’s when her work begins.

❤️ What Keeps Her Motivated
Her drive comes from two places: the colleagues she works alongside every day, and the families we serve. That combination keeps her grounded in purpose and energized for the next challenge.

📚 How She Landed in Accounting
Accounting wasn’t a straight line — it was a toss up between Law and Accounting. Ultimately, she followed in her mom’s footsteps and leaned into the experience she already had working in her parents’ businesses. It turns out she chose the perfect fit.

🧠 Her Superpower
Lisa has a knack for quickly grasping new concepts and teaching them in ways that make sense to everyone. She’s the colleague who can break down the complicated stuff and make it feel easy.

🐂 Fun Fact: She Misses Her Bull, Walter
One thing her colleagues might not know? Lisa is a ranch girl at heart. She dearly misses her cows — especially her bull, Walter, who seems to have left quite an impression. (We think Walter deserves his own feature someday.)

🎉 A Proud Moment at Inn from the Cold
A standout achievement for Lisa was completing the installation of ApprovalMax, a change that significantly streamlined our approval and accounts payable processes. It’s the kind of behind the scenes win that makes a big difference for the whole organization.

🌿 Life Outside the Office
To recharge, Lisa spends time with her two dogs and three cats — a full, furry household that keeps her grounded. She also loves cooking, gardening, and being with her family.
