Exciting news for Oakridge — our Greenspace Master Plan is officially underway!
This summer, the Oakridge Community Association contracted a landscape architecture firm to help develop a long-term vision for Oakridge’s parks, pathways and open spaces — based on what our community actually wants and needs.
Now we need your help!
Community input is at the heart of the Master Plan, and over the coming months we’ll need lots of volunteers to help us hear from as many Oakridge residents as possible.
Our first volunteer opportunity is helping with park observations using SOPARC, a simple tool that helps us understand how our greenspaces are being used today. Volunteers will spend short periods observing a nearby park and recording things like how many people are there, what activities they’re doing and which areas are being used.
Observations will take place three days per week over a two-week period at different times of day. This may be especially easy if you live close to one of Oakridge’s parks or greenspaces and can incorporate an observation into your normal day.
Volunteer training will be held virtually on September 10 at 6:30 pm. The workshop is one hour and no previous experience is needed.
