We're proud to share that CUPS recently achieved 100% compliance in the Canadian Accreditation Council review of our Mental Health and Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) programs.

This result reflects much more than meeting a standard. It affirms our commitment to delivering high-quality, client-centred care for people navigating complex mental health and substance use challenges. It also demonstrates the strength of the systems, partnerships, and people that support this work every day.

Accreditation is one moment in time, but quality improvement is ongoing. We continue to listen, learn, and evolve so that every person who walks through our doors receives the respectful, integrated care they deserve.

To our Mental Health and OAT teams—thank you. Your knowledge, collaboration, and unwavering dedication make achievements like this possible, but more importantly, they make a lasting difference in the lives of the people we serve every day.

Today, CUPS spent the day honouring International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) and remembering the lives impacted.

Every August 31, IOAD brings people around the world together to remember those we have lost and raise awareness about overdose prevention. This year marks the 25th anniversary of IOAD, with the theme “25 Years On. Still Needed.” The theme recognizes that overdoses continue to affect our communities, and there is still work to do.

CUPS took the time together today to reflect, remember, learn, hold space and share stories. As part of our observance, memorial trees were placed throughout CUPS with purple branches to honour those whose lives have been impacted. Clients and staff were invited to add a name or note in memory of someone they have lost or someone who has been affected by drug poisoning.

To learn more about International Overdose Awareness Day, visit: www.overdoseday.com. Together, we can reduce stigma, raise awareness, expand access to care and ensure people are met with dignity, compassion and connection.

Exciting News! CUPS Calgary has an opening for the Governance and Human Resources Committee Chair role on its Board of Directors. For over 35 years and counting, CUPS has supported Calgary’s most vulnerable population, to empower and support those impacted by poverty, trauma and system marginalization.

In addition to the duties of a board member, this role involves chairing the Governance and Human Resources Committee.

The Chair of this Committee is responsible for leading the committee in overseeing CUPS governance framework, including board composition, director nominations, and the development of governance policies and practices.

The Chair guides the committee's work in establishing and reviewing executive compensation programs, succession planning for senior leadership, and supports CUPS’ senior leadership team with human resources strategies that align with the organization's objectives.

Additionally, the Chair ensures effective communication between the committee and the Board, sets the committee's agenda, presides over its meetings, and reports on the committee's activities and recommendations to the Board.

We are seeking a qualified and experienced leader, with a strong background in governance and/or employment or human resources, 10 or more years of experience in a governance or HR role at a firm and/or in industry, and the time and willingness to use their skill set to give back to the Calgary community.

The ideal candidate must reside in Calgary and have the time and flexibility to attend Board and Committee meetings. Previous non-profit or charity experience is preferred. It is estimated that on average the time commitment would be approximately 6-10 hours per month.

If you would like to express your interest in the position, please send an email to the following address together with a copy of your CV to [email protected].

CUPS was out today at the Calgary Pop-Up Care Village - thank you to everyone who stopped by!

Central Memorial Park was filled with connection, care, and community. Hundreds of Calgarians gathered to access vital supports, enjoy live music, food, and connection with local service providers.

CUPS was grateful to be part of this event, offering resources like Hep C point of Care testing! We’re proud to stand alongside our community partners who are dedicated to building a stronger, healthier community for all Calgarians!

From employment services to medical care, food and friendship, the day was a reminder of what’s possible when our city comes together.

For this month's CUPian Spotlight, meet Kassya, one of CUPS' Community Development Case Managers!

"Hi, I'm Kassya Whelan, and I'm one of the Community Development Case Managers here at CUPS.

As an Intensive Case Manager with Community Development at CUPS, I support people through challenging and often complex circumstances. I build genuine relationships, listen without judgment, and help connect people to the resources and support they need. My goal is to walk alongside clients as they work toward greater stability, confidence, and a stronger sense of belonging in their community!

I do this work because I’ve always had a passion for helping people and being someone they can lean on and feel supported by. Since I was 15, I’ve wanted to go to school to become a social worker, and I feel lucky to now be doing work that reflects that passion. A fun fact about me is that I play on a women’s rugby team, and we recently won our second provincial championship!"

Thank you Kassya for all of the important work that you do!
