While his actions were found to be "serious" they were not considered a "criminal offence" because he didn't share them with anyone. This is the new world of AI combined with the continued carceral, misogynist world of policing, and it's just the beginning.

Stay informed and keep resisting!

Calgary Police Constable Craig Stothard is facing two counts of second-degree murder after fatally shooting two men during a slow-speed pursuit in May 2023.

Levon Boyce Fox and Wesley Davidson were both killed when Stothard fired into a stolen cube van on Memorial Drive. A third occupant was also in the vehicle.

After more than two years of investigation, ASIRT laid the charges in July 2025. What stood out to many in the legal community was how quickly Stothard was released.
He was granted bail the same day he was charged — something several defence lawyers and former prosecutors described as “absolutely unheard of” for someone facing double murder charges. One senior Calgary defence lawyer said it was “frankly amazing” to see a reverse-onus double homicide case get before a Court of King’s Bench judge within hours. Another noted that civilian accused in similar cases often wait weeks or even over a month in remand just for a bail hearing.

Stothard was released on relatively light conditions, including a $1,000 recognizance, a nighttime curfew, and surrendering his passport. He remains on leave from the Calgary Police Service.

The mother of one of the victims has already raised the issue of fairness, stating there should be no special priority simply because the accused was a police officer.
Would an average citizen charged with shooting and killing two people be released this quickly, on these conditions? Many lawyers are openly questioning whether this reflects a two-tier system of justice.

The preliminary inquiry is now underway. These are the questions the public is watching closely.

On June 21st 2026, the Calgary Police shot and killed Melanie Hambrook while she was in a state of crisis. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident; 70% of people killed by police in Canada either struggle with mental health issues, substance use or both. Please support Melanie's family by contributing to their GoFundMe for funeral and legal support.

So far in 2026, police in Canada have killed approximately 39 people. In comparison, 5 Canadian police officers have died on-duty in 2026: only 3 of them labelled as “attacks”.

Police love propaganda to suggest their lives are at stake, but statistics confirm “the number of officers killed by someone intentionally trying to harm them is lower today than it has been in the past.” (CBC)

As of yesterday, June 10th 2026, Taylor’s Peace Bond has finally come to an end.

For three years, Taylor has been heavily surveilled, harassed and threatened by members of the Calgary Police Service as a form of control and intimidation. While Taylor has remained involved in daily community organizing, police have remained on her neck, reminding her that they can cage her at any moment.

While she may finally be free from these conditions, no longer having to report to probation and be in constant fear of re-arrest, the emotional toll remains the same; she is not free from the impacts of criminalization. Additionally, she has still been paying off legal fees from these matters and continued to fight two ongoing lawsuits brought on by members of the Calgary.

The people who are practicing what they preach are the ones we should be throwing our support behind wholeheartedly.

Support Taylor. Support Adora. Support all Black q***r and trans organizers who put their bodies on the lines daily. https://gogetfunding.com/250krelieffund/
