Another successful EDA Ministry Dinner is in the books!

This year's sold-out event welcomed 180 attendees, bringing together economic development professionals and community builders from across the province with Ministers and senior staff from the Government of Canada and the Government of Alberta.

What makes this dinner unique are the table rotations..

Thank you to the government representatives who took part in those.. giving attendees the chance to hear about the work you're doing and ask questions. The conversations are really valuable! And thanks to the EDA hosts who helped to make those rotations run smoothly....

Another highlight was our pre-dinner Government Showcase.
Attendees had the chance to learn about provincial and federal programs available to support economic development across Alberta. This trade show-style networking opportunity before the dinner begins has become a valuable part of our evening!

A special thank you to Hon. Joseph Schow, Alberta Minister of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration and EDA's Honorary Patron, and Kent Rupert from Invest Alberta for your remarks.

Attend EDA’s FREE in-person economic resilience workshop in Canmore on Tuesday and receive FREE access to our online Community Economic Resilience course to continue learning at your own pace!

During our "How Resilient Is Your Community?" workshop you will
spend the day working through scenarios with experienced practitioners. Explore your role during a disruption, how to support local businesses, and relationships worth building before a crisis.

Learn from Leann Hackman-Carty, Lynn A. Knight, Eleanor Miclette, Angela Groeneveld, and Trevor Lewington.

Then use the online course to build on what you’ve learned.

Completing the CER course also counts toward EDA’s Community Economic Development (CED) Certificate, helping you develop practical skills while working toward a professional credential.

For families, friends, and colleagues, the loss is unimaginable.

The fire that swept through CFB Wainwright claimed lives, caused devastating injuries, and sent grief through a community deeply connected to those who serve.

At EDA, we extend our condolences to those grieving and our support to everyone facing the difficult days ahead.

At a time like this, conversations about community resilience must begin with people: how we support one another when the unexpected happens, and how we sustain that support through recovery.

For economic development practitioners, that includes understanding our role alongside emergency management, maintaining connections with local businesses, and helping communities navigate disruption.

EDA’s "How Resilient Is Your Community?" FREE workshop offers a day to explore those responsibilities with experienced practitioners and colleagues.

It’s an excellent day of in-person learning focused on helping elected officials better understand their role in economic development and how the decisions they make can help create the conditions for strong, resilient communities.

At EDA, we believe economic development is a team sport and when elected officials understand the fundamentals of economic development, they’re better equipped to work alongside economic development professionals, ask the right questions, support sound strategies and champion opportunities in their communities.
