Wildfire doesn't just threaten permanent homes. Recreational properties, seasonal cabins, RVs, and campsites can also be vulnerable to ember ignition.

Before you unpack, take a few minutes to:
✅ Clear dry grass, needles, and leaves from around buildings, RVs, and trailers
✅ Keep roofs, gutters, and decks free of debris
✅ Store firewood away from structures during wildfire season
✅ Keep driveways and access roads clear for emergency vehicles
✅ Maintain a non-combustible area around campfires and always follow local fire restrictions

If you're leaving your property for an extended period, do a quick FireSmart check before you go. Small actions can help reduce wildfire risk and protect the places we enjoy most.

Blue-green algae: What you need to know
Blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) can develop in lakes, ponds, and slow-moving water during warm weather. Some blooms can produce toxins that may pose a risk to people, pets, and livestock.

Watch for:
• Water that appears green, blue-green, or like pea soup.
• Surface scum, mats, or streaks.
• Unusual odours.

If you see a bloom:
• Avoid swimming, wading, or water sports.
• Keep children and pets away from the water.
• Do not drink or cook with untreated water.
• Rinse off with clean water if contact occurs.

Reporting blooms
Algae blooms can be reported to the Province through the Algae Watch website. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/air-land-water/water/water-quality/algae-watch.
