A new home for Lakes Literacy!

We’re excited to share a little update.

Until now, Ellie, our Literacy Outreach Coordinator, has worked primarily from home. Going forward, Lakes Literacy will be operating out of the Burns Lake Public Library, where office space is being generously shared as an in-kind contribution to literacy initiatives in our community.

This new arrangement opens the door to some exciting possibilities. Being based at the library will make it easier to explore new program collaborations, community partnerships, and literacy opportunities, while also making Lakes Literacy more visible and accessible within the community.

The Burns Lake Public Library is a welcoming place for learning, connection, and access to information, and we’re looking forward to be able to build on that work together. ❤️

We also want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to School District 91 for providing Lakes Literacy with storage space at the Muriel Mould Neighbourhood Learning Centre over the years, and for their continued collaboration as a member of our literacy task group, as well as through in-kind accounting and administrative support for our organization. We’re grateful for the role SD91 continues to play in helping literacy initiatives thrive in our region.

We’re looking forward to seeing where this new chapter takes us, and to finding more ways to support literacy, learning, and connection throughout the Lakes District. 💛

Back to school means more children walking, biking and taking the bus. Slow down, stay alert and watch for kids on roads, at intersections and around schools.

Remember that a 30 km/h speed limit is in effect in school zones from 8 am to 5 pm on school days, and in playground zones from dawn to dusk every day. When school bus lights are flashing, vehicles approaching from both directions must stop. And drivers must keep a safe distance of at least 1 m when passing cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
