Our first turnips of the season are here!

Last week, 5,400 pounds of turnips made their way through our Burnaby warehouse. We would not be able to distribute all this produce without the incredible volunteers who help get fresh food into the community.

Meet one of our regular Burnaby Distribution volunteers, Wayne! He brings so much warmth and positivity to every shift, and we’re always grateful to have him on our team.

One ingredient. So many possibilities. 🍄

A big thank you to Maia Farms for donating over 300 lb of SHRED to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank! SHRED contains simple ingredients but offers a versatile, high-protein, high-fibre ingredient that adds texture, structure, and nutritional value to a wide range of food applications!

We were excited to welcome the Maia Farms team for a visit, where they captured the donation being offloaded and shared more about the possibilities of SHRED.

Meet Areeve!

What makes volunteering at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank different? For Areeve, it’s the people.

“Everyone in the GVFB community is very approachable, and everyone treats each other with lots of respect.”
Volunteering has given Areeve a chance to connect with others, learn more about food insecurity, and play a hands-on role in supporting people across our community.

Their advice for anyone thinking about volunteering? “Go for it.” You’ll meet new people, become more involved in your community, and know that your time is making a difference.

We’re grateful to have volunteers like Areeve helping us build a stronger, more connected community.

Turning surplus into something new and bringing it to transit riders across Metro Vancouver. 🍎🚆

Today, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank and TransLink launched a new vending initiative at Patterson and Joyce–Collingwood SkyTrain stations, making our food preservation products available for people on their daily commute!

The machines feature GVFB cold-pressed juices and freeze-dried fruit snacks made from surplus fresh produce, transforming perishable food into products with a longer shelf life.
Even better? Proceeds go directly back into supporting our food preservation work and helping us find new ways to make fresh food go further.

A big thank you to TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn and Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley for joining GVFB CEO David Long and Board Chair Fiona Macdonald this morning to celebrate this next step in our innovation journey.

That's a whole lot of cauliflower!

We received 31,163 pounds of fresh cauliflower to distribute to communities across our network during harvest season. That's more than 14 tonnes of fresh produce helping provide nutritious food to people and families in our communities.

We're grateful to the growers and partners who helped make this possible.

What were you like in the ’80s and ’90s? 👀

We’ve grown a lot over the years, and we’re just getting started.

We have big ideas for the future, starting with food preservation. By freeze-drying, flash-freezing and juicing surplus produce, we can extend its shelf life, preserve nutrients and make sure more good food gets to the people who need it.

Thanks for being part of our journey so far. Want to help us shape what’s next? Your support helps turn big ideas into real impact.

As wildfires continue to impact communities across the Okanagan, we’re working to help ensure people who have been displaced can access the food and support they need. We’re sending a truckload of food to partners in the Okanagan supporting wildfire evacuees, with food helping individuals and families as they move into temporary accommodations.

If you have been displaced by the wildfires and are temporarily staying in Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster or the North Shore, you are welcome to visit one of our locations during operating hours to access food support.

You are not alone. We’re here to help.
