HAS - Housing Affordability Symposium

Housing Affordability Symposium - March 14-15, 2013 is a collaboration between industry, government and organizations to make market housing within the means of all British Columbians. This event was the first of its kind, bringing together industry and level of government to openly discuss the issues and solutions to housing affordability in BC. This Symposium focused on market housing affordabil

ity to lower housing costs or remove barriers of entry for all British Columbians. The work was continued in February 2012 and more innovatie solutions to instill affordability in housing were discussed and actioned. More than an educational conference, the Symposium provides interactive, facilitated roundtable conversations amongst all attendees, including elected officials, construction industry leaders and government staff to engage in this critical issue for the future of housing. Each roundtable discussion featured a specific issues under one of four topics: Regulatory Barriers, Economic Issues, Community Planning and Maximizing Housing Stock. in 2013 the Symposium is challenging the future of affordability in terms of shifting demographics and changing needs. Moving from the enormous challenges of our economy, failing infrastructure and aging population the symposium will address real solutions today and well into the future.
