We would like you to meet our 4 wonderful summer students- Diego, Sanay, Charleigh and Ben!

This summer, Diego will be supporting our marketing team with a focus on media and video storytelling, Sanay will be helping lead and strengthen our youth initiatives, Charleigh will be working alongside our programming team to support neighbours accessing our services, and Ben will be supporting our operations and warehouse team

Each of them brings unique skills, energy, and perspectives to our work, and we're grateful to have them helping us strengthen our mission throughout the summer. Be sure to say hello when you see them around Food for Life!

Thank you to Global News for highlighting the growing need to modernize best before date labels and address the confusion that leads to unnecessary food waste.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important national conversation. The article highlights that “people are throwing away food that is perfectly safe to eat because they misunderstand what date labels actually mean.” Clearer, more consistent labelling can help Canadians make informed choices, reduce avoidable waste, and keep more good food out of landfills.

Food for Life supports the national efforts led by Second Harvest Deuxième Récolte, including calls to remove unnecessary “best before” labels on some foods, improve label clarity, expand public education, and include food waste reduction in Canada’s National Food Security Strategy.

Thank you to CTV News for highlighting the growing affordability crisis and its impact on our communities.

The latest Food Banks Canada Poverty Report Card reflects what we see every day at Food for Life: more individuals and families are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living, forcing difficult choices between food, housing, transportation, and other basic necessities.

While food banks and community food programs provide important support, they are not a solution to poverty. Lasting change requires meaningful action to improve affordability and stronger investments in the income and social supports that help people meet their basic needs with dignity.

Karen Randall, executive director of Food for Life, says the number of families relying on resources like food banks is ‘growing exponentially’ in Canada.

This Local Food Week, we’re celebrating the farmers, growers, and producers who help nourish our communities.

At Food for Life, food rescue allows us to redirect surplus fresh, local food to neighbours who need it most — reducing waste while increasing access to healthy food. Supporting local food systems strengthens our communities, supports sustainability, and helps build a more resilient future for everyone.

Thank you to all those working across Ontario’s food system for the care and commitment you bring to this important work

This Pride Month, we’re celebrating love, identity, and equity - including the right to access food.

2SLGBTQIA+ communities face higher rates of food insecurity due to systemic barriers, and at Food for Life, we’re committed to making food support inclusive, welcoming, and safe for everyone.

Food is a human right, and that right should never depend on who you are or who you love. You belong here. With pride, and without exception.

We’re incredibly grateful to Community Foundation of Halton North - CFHN for welcoming our team to a beautiful community showcase and for their generous financial support of our work in Acton.

This funding helps make a meaningful impact on both Food for Life and The Roxy Centre as we continue working together to meet the growing food needs of low-income households in our community, strengthening our collaboration and helping us provide healthy fresh food during increasingly challenging times.

We are grateful for all you do!

We’re proud to support Right To Food Canada and their call for action on food insecurity in Canada.

Today, nearly 10 million people—one in four—live in households that struggle to afford food. This includes workers, families with children, seniors, and people with disabilities

Right To Food’s 2026 pre-budget submission outlines practical, evidence-based solutions, shaped by input from more than 150 community organizations and Indigenous partners.

Key recommendations include:
• Setting national targets to cut food insecurity in half by 2030
• Strengthening and making permanent the Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit
• Expanding the Canada Disability Benefit to lift people out of poverty
• Fund Indigenous food sovereignty through sustained, community-led investment

These are actionable steps that can make a real difference.

Wishing peace, joy, and connection to all those celebrating.

Eid al-Adha is a time of generosity, reflection, and community — values that remind us of the importance of caring for and uplifting one another. At Food for Life, we are grateful for the many ways our community comes together to share kindness, compassion, and support with neighbours across Halton and Hamilton.

Eid Mubarak to all celebrating.
