Burlington’s King Edward VII Memorial Fountain is back and restored to its glory! It was reinstalled at City Hall following restoration this week — thank you to City staff for their efforts. This is certainly some good news for our community!

Made in Hamilton, the fountain was previously located at Lakeshore Road and Brant Street following its dedication in 1912. After spending some time in storage until being restored at the time by the Optimist Club of Burlington, it was relocated to its current location at the corner of Brant and Ontario streets in 1977 for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee, where it has stood ever since.

As we each choose the best way for us and our families to commemorate Canada Day, I encourage everyone to reflect on our nation’s true history & its ongoing effects today – honouring Indigenous Residential School Survivors & listening to their stories, & mourning those who didn’t survive. Please see my statement on Canada Day: https://mariannemeedward.ca/statement-from-burlington-mayor-meed-ward-on-canada-day-celebrations.

Today, our Pier will be lit orange and the shoe memorial will remain at City Hall for Canada Day. As well, Indigenous artist Amber Ruthart’s ‘A Hope for Healing’ art installation returns to Spencer Smith Park from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today. The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation flag will now permanently fly at City Hall next to the flag of Canada.
