Leeds and Grenville Interval House is a shelter for women and children who have experienced physical and/or emotional violence. We provide the following confidential services:

Emergency Shelter:
-for women and their children
-supportive counselling
-meals, necessities, comfortable family atmosphere
-information and referrals
-private and confidential services

Children's Program:

-support and advocacy to mothers and their children
-information and referrals
-relaxed and safe environment for children

Children's Witness Program:
-facilitates a concurrent group program for mothers and their children (ages
4-16) who have experienced violence, designed to support the healing of
children from their experiences
-follow-up counselling for children after group who may need assistance
-individual counselling for children

Outreach Program:
-provides confidential counselling to women in their community who are
presently in or have, in the past, been in abusive relationships
-Outreach workers meets with women in their community, their home, or
any safe location
-works with woman to develop safety plans
-can accompany women to lawyer's appointments, court appearances and
meetings with the Crown Attorney, Family and Children's Service

Transition and Housing Support Program:
-assists women to find safe and secure housing
-works with tenants and landlords to resolve conflicts and to avoid evictions
-offers information and advocacy about housing, social assistance, legal aid
applications and safety planning
-can accompany women to social services, housing appointments, lawyers,
court and FCS
-assists with transitional planning and assistance in carrying out a plan for
change
-facilitates a bi-weekly open peer support group for women who have
experienced abuse

Public Education:
-Presentations and workshops when requested on Violence Against Woman
-available to schools, churches, and community groups

Volunteer Program:

Are you interested in joining a Volunteer Board?
Leeds and Grenville Interval House ("LGIH") provides emergency shelter, transitional and outreach support for women and their children who have experienced abuse.
LGIH’s Board of Directors is currently looking to fill the volunteer role of General Director.
Directors are responsible for and agree to:
• Fulfill governance and stewardship role to ensure the ongoing long-term success of the organization
• Act as an ambassador of the organization and its mission in the community at large, to increase
• Have an awareness of violence against women, promote LGIH services, and build new supporters
• Support Strategic Plan goals
• Engage with key stakeholders including funders, partners, donors, and supporters
• Attend regularly scheduled board meetings on a monthly basis and come prepared to participate in discussions
• Attend events representing LGIH
We encourage applications from women and men who reflect the diversity of the community we serve,
including but not limited to; survivors of violence, people of colour, Aboriginal women and men,
LGBTQIA2s+, individuals with disabilities, and individuals representing the range of socio-economic realities in our community.
We are looking for individuals who have a strong commitment to feminist practice and bring
experience as well as expertise in one of the following areas:
Desired Expertise and Profile:
• Strategic Planning
• Fundraising/Marketing/Public Relations
• Experience in the Not for Profit or Social Services Sector
• Superior networking skills and extensive network of contacts
The following is not mandatory but considered an asset:
• Previous board experience

🌟 Leadership Announcement 🌟

The Board of Directors of Leeds and Grenville Interval House is thrilled to announce that Katie Sparkes has been appointed our new Executive Director, effective March 16, 2026.

Katie brings over 18 years of leadership in the violence‑against‑women sector, including nearly two decades at Nipissing Transition House and her current role as Operations Manager at LGIH. She is a steady, trauma‑informed leader with deep expertise in shelter operations, crisis response, labour‑management collaboration, and Ministry‑funded program oversight. We are delighted to welcome her into this role.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to Melissa Leveck, whose leadership over the past three years has strengthened our organization and supported our mission with vision and dedication.
