Leeds and Grenville Interval House is a shelter for women and children who have experienced physical and/or emotional violence. We provide the following confidential services:

Emergency Shelter:
-for women and their children
-supportive counselling
-meals, necessities, comfortable family atmosphere
-information and referrals
-private and confidential services

Children's Program:
-support and advocacy to mothers and their children
-information and referrals
-relaxed and safe environment for children

Children's Witness Program:
-facilitates a concurrent group program for mothers and their children (ages
4-16) who have experienced violence, designed to support the healing of
children from their experiences
-follow-up counselling for children after group who may need assistance
-individual counselling for children

Outreach Program:
-provides confidential counselling to women in their community who are
presently in or have, in the past, been in abusive relationships
-Outreach workers meets with women in their community, their home, or
any safe location
-works with woman to develop safety plans
-can accompany women to lawyer's appointments, court appearances and
meetings with the Crown Attorney, Family and Children's Service

Transition and Housing Support Program:
-assists women to find safe and secure housing
-works with tenants and landlords to resolve conflicts and to avoid evictions
-offers information and advocacy about housing, social assistance, legal aid
applications and safety planning
-can accompany women to social services, housing appointments, lawyers,
court and FCS
-assists with transitional planning and assistance in carrying out a plan for
change
-facilitates a bi-weekly open peer support group for women who have
experienced abuse

Public Education:
-Presentations and workshops when requested on Violence Against Woman
-available to schools, churches, and community groups

Volunteer Program:
*As a volunteer at Interval House you can:
-support women and children in need
-share your skills and experience
-make a positive contribution to your community

October 18th is Persons Day

Today, we recognize Persons Day, commemorating a pivotal moment in Canada's history when women were legally recognized as “persons” under the law for the purposes of appointment to the Senate in 1929.

The historic Persons Case was a significant milestone in the fight for women's rights and equality in Canada. It reminds us of the courage, determination, and advocacy of those who challenged discrimination and helped pave the way for future generations.

At Leeds & Grenville Interval House we recognize that equality means more than legal recognition. It means ensuring that all women have the opportunity to live with dignity, make their own choices, access support, and live free from violence and abuse.

💜 Today, we honour the progress made, recognize the barriers that remain, and reaffirm our commitment to a future where every woman and girl is safe, valued, heard, and empowered.

Equality is not just about being recognized. It's about having the opportunity to live safely, freely, and without fear.

💜 International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, October 17th
Poverty is more than a lack of money. It can mean choosing between putting food on the table, paying rent, purchasing essential medications, or finding a safe place to live.

For women and children experiencing gender-based violence, poverty can create additional barriers to leaving an unsafe situation. Financial abuse, limited access to affordable housing, childcare costs, and economic insecurity can make it difficult to seek safety and rebuild independently.

No one should have to choose between their safety and their financial security.

This International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Leeds & Grenville Interval House recognizes the importance of addressing the connection between poverty, gender-based violence, and housing insecurity.

Together, we can work toward a community where every woman and child has access to safety, stable housing, essential resources, and the opportunity to thrive. 💜

Today, we honour the babies who were loved, the pregnancies that ended too soon, and the families who carry the weight of a loss that words cannot always express.

Pregnancy and infant loss can be an incredibly heartbreaking experience. Behind every loss is a story, a family, and a love that will never be forgotten. For many, grief continues long after the world moves on.

Today, we hold space for parents, siblings, grandparents, and all those whose lives have been touched by pregnancy or infant loss. We recognize that grief looks different for everyone, and there is no timeline for healing.
