Brockville Police

Brockville Police We provide Municipal Policing services to the City of Brockville, Ontario. The case was dismissed, and so was Smith. Catharine’s as the first Chief of Police.

History of the Brockville Police Service

This Police Service was formed in 1832, when the hamlet was created as a Police Village under a Board of Police. In that year, James Kennedy was appointed High Bailiff, and William Smith was the first Constable to be hired. It is said that one of Smith's first court cases involved several young gentlemen who were accused of driving their horses at a fast p

ace along the main street. In the next forty years, there were few changes in the composition of the Police Service except those caused by death. The position of High Constable or Bailiff was held by several men, among whom were John McKenna, Michael Hunter and Thomas Mowat. In 1876, town Council secured the services of Henry Mitchell of St. He directed the organization of the Force, which consisted of a Sergeant and five Constables. Chief Mitchell resigned in 1890 and was followed by Charles Rose, a native of Dundas, Ontario, who was succeeded in 1899 by Chief Samuel Adams. In 1905 William Burke was appointed Chief of Police and held this post until 1926. Records show that during this period the names of some of the police officers were Botham, Burns, Davison, Glazier, Simpson, Storey, Thompson and Foster. In 1927, John Brown was appointed Chief, and remained in that position until 1938 when he resigned and was replaced by Wilmot F. Young, who held the post until his retirement in 1968. He was succeeded by N.L. Sterritt, who retired in June, 1984. On his retirement, the Police Commission appointed W.M.G. Curtis as Chief of Police. Upon the retirement of Chief Curtis in 1990, R.J. McFadden became the next Chief of Police until his retirement in 1995. Chief Barry V. King was appointed Chief of Police in October 1995, followed by John Manoll, who was appointed to Chief of Police in 2007. Upon Chief Manoll's retirement in January, 2009, Adrian Geraghty, who has been a member of the Brockville Police Service since 1974, was appointed as Chief. Upon Chief Geraghty's retirement, Chief John S. Gardiner was appointed on the 1st of June, 2011.

National Police Week

National Police Week is a time to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and quiet courage of police personnel across Canada. This year, the Brockville Police Service enters the week under the weight of a challenging and complex homicide investigation that has demanded the full attention of our members. While this has kept us from participating in the celebrations as fully as we would have liked, it has also reminded us of something essential about policing: we never stand alone.

In moments like these, the strength of our policing community becomes unmistakably clear. Our partners at the Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP, the Kingston Police, the Gananoque Police Service, and the Smiths Falls Police Service have stepped forward offering support, resources, and collaboration. Together, we continue to provide not only adequate policing, but excellent, responsive, and community‑focused service to the people we serve.

To our officers, civilian staff, and policing partners: thank you for your professionalism, your dedication, and your service.

To our community: thank you for your trust and support. We continue this work for you.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms in our communities!

Today we celebrate the strength, love, compassion, and sacrifices that mothers make every single day.

A special recognition goes out to the mothers serving as first responders — police officers, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, nurses, and emergency personnel — who often spend holidays, weekends, and precious family moments protecting and caring for others. Your dedication, courage, and selflessness do not go unnoticed.

Thank you for everything you do to keep our communities safe while continuing to be amazing moms at home.

What a great opportunity for our new peer support members, and couldn’t have come at a better time with the tragedy that came the following day.

May is Mental Health Awareness month.

Brockville Police and Smiths Falls Police co-hosted a 3-day peer-peer support team training after Brockville Police received a Ministry grant relating to Mental Health Support for Public Safety Personnel. The funding aims to ensure first responders and other public safety personnel have support programs that addresses our unique challenges faced by first responders and the high level of trauma they face every day. Peer to peer support teams is integral in supporting each other. This training was done through the Wounded Warriors Program and included Brockville, Smiths Falls and Gananoque officers and civilian staff as well as Brockville Paramedics. We thank Chris Saumure and Chad Storie for allowing us use of the building.

Youth Arrested as Police Investigate the Suspicious Deaths of Three Individuals

On May 7, 2026 at approximately 11:30 am, police responded to a 911 call reporting the deaths of three individuals at a residence on Cartier Court. Officers arrived promptly and confirmed that three individuals were found deceased inside the residence. Based on evidence at the scene, the deaths were deemed
as suspicious in nature.

Following the initial response, police received additional information that led them to an address on the outskirts of Brockville. A 17-year-old, Brockville youth believed to be connected to this incident was located at that address and taken into custody for three counts of first-degree murder and assaulting a police officer. The accused and the victims are known to one another, and police have confirmed this was not a random incident.

This investigation is sensitive and complex. We recognize the profound impact this incident has on the families, loved ones, and the community. We respectfully ask for the public’s patience as investigators continue their work, and we encourage empathy for those most directly impacted.

The accused will appear for a bail hearing on May 8th, 2026 and will not be named as their identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Further information will be provided when it is appropriate and able.

We encourage anyone with information to contact the Brockville Police Service at 613-342-0127 or alternatively through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
