Britannia Beach Firefighters Association

Britannia Beach Firefighters Association Within the department, the Association organizes social events and programs to support our volunteer firefighters. BRITANNIA BEACH VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPT.

The Britannia Beach Firefighter's Association has been incorporated to support and celebrate the activities of Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department members and the Sea to Sky communities they serve in British Columbia, Canada. BRITANNIA BEACH FIREFIGHTER'S ASSOCIATION
All members of the Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department (BBVFD) are members of the Britannia Beach Firefighter's Associat

ion. Externally, the Association funds and organizes many community events and causes ranging from presents from Santa, donating to worthy causes, and funding a bursary for local students attending post-secondary school. The Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department (BBVFD) has been in existence in one form or another since 1904. For over 110 years BBVFD has provided fire and rescue services in the beautiful Sea to Sky region and currently serves south of Squamish through to Porteau Cove. Originally a privately owned Fire Service operating in the Britannia copper mines, the department has evolved continuously over the years into its current state as a Community Fire Service supporting the residents of Porteau Cove, Furry Creek and Britannia Beach as well as the thousands of visitors who enjoy our region each year. As a community-oriented volunteer department, we're able to ensure both our training levels and our equipment are the highest standards possible and that our members are capable and feel confident attending the most challenging situations. We are trained to attend all sorts of emergency situations including Structure and Vehicle Fires, Road Rescue, Interface Fires, Low Angle Rope Rescue and First Responder Medical Aid. In 2015 our members voted to extend our services to include Medical Aid & Road Rescue Services and incorporate all of the extra training and additional call volume that entails. Our highway coverage extends from Porteau Road to just south of Murrin Provincial Park. We aim to maintain a healthy membership of at least 30 active firefighters and our members really enjoy the camaraderie within the department as well as the good feeling that comes with helping our friends, neighbours and other members of the public when the need arises. BE FIRE SMART.

Last night, we gathered together to honour (and roast) our amazing Fire Chief Rob Nicholls, who will be officially retiring at the end of June. πŸ˜”

Few people generate such incredible impact on so many lives and the ripple effect of his teachings and influence stretch far beyond our station walls. Chief Nicholls has been a steady leader, a patient mentor, and a true friend to so many of us far and wide. His dedication built a legacy that will keep our community safe for decades to come. πŸ™

To say that he has touched and influenced many lives over his near half-century of service is a vast understatement, and his support and leadership will be dearly missed. We're thankful to know that he's not leaving us entirely, however, and we know that he's always just a 30-second drive away. ❀️

Thank you for your decades of selfless service. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement.

πŸš’ Our trucks looked so small from our training staging area tonight as our team worked on wildfire interface scenarios, including setting up a portable reservoir (aka the "pumpkin") as well as pumping from a nearby creek. An "emergency medical incident" requiring rapid transport finished off our training Tuesday. πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

It's dry in our forests, and our temperatures are expected to climb shortly. Please be FireSmart BC .

We celebrated our 2026 Britannia Beach Volunteer Fire Department Awards Night last night at the gorgeous Furry Creek Golf and Country Club.

As always, the Chief was an amazing MC, and a great time was had by all. πŸ‘Œ

The New Recruit Class of 2026 (minus 3 members) was officially inducted and we also celebrated Lieutenant Lynne's 25 years of service. New engineers and first responders were recognized, and we also honoured members reaching their 5 and 10 year milestones. πŸ†πŸ₯‡πŸŽ–

A special shout out to G. who attended the most call-outs in 2025! Ironically, this moment was actually interrupted by a real call-out for our duty crew (including G., of course!) πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

Thanks to our Social Crew for organizing, our Chief for the great stories, and to Furry Creek Golf & Country Club for hosting our event.

Thank you, Logan Lake!! πŸ™Œ

Some of our awesome team members were lucky enough to participate in this year's Volunteer Firefighters Association of BC (VFABC) 2026 Spring Seminar hosted by the Logan Lake Firefighters Association. πŸ‘©β€πŸš’

This event brings approximately 350 firefighters together for intensive hands-on training, including live fire scenarios, auto extrication, and rescue techniques. But most importantly, it provides amazing networking and support opportunities for our members to get to know, be inspired and learn from other volunteers throughout the province.

Thanks team for representing us, and bringing back some new skills that we look forward to learning from you- especially those amazing wrestling moves!!! πŸ¦Ήβ€β™‚οΈ

Another kind message from our wonderful Fire Chief, Rob Nicholls:

β€œTeam, International Firefighters Day is celebrated on May 4th every year. This is a day dedicated to honouring the courage, commitment and sacrifices of volunteer and career firefighters worldwide, while remembering those that have lost their lives in the line of duty.

I can't say enough about the admiration, respect and pride I hold, and the honour I feel, serving along side of each and every one of you.

Thanks for all that you give and do.”

Rob Nicholls, LAFC

With that message in mind, we’d like to say the following in return:

Our team is extremely fortunate to be mentored and led by a very strong and dedicated group of officers who coach, motivate and inspire us to continue to learn, grow and push through the challenges and discomfort that we sometimes face.

We’d like to take this moment to thank them for their service and leadership. We are so grateful to follow in their footsteps. β€οΈπŸ‘¨πŸ½β€πŸš’πŸ§‘β€πŸš’πŸ§―

We're incredibly fortunate to have such generous neighbours at who allowed us to practice a multi-patient search & extrication scenario for our Tuesday practice night.

This vast structure offered a myriad of complications and challenges for our team in a complex and risky environment. We're grateful for having had this opportunity to work on special technical skills while drilling down on the importance of creative problem solving.

What an amazing facility showcasing the history of our wonderful community. Thanks again for hosting us!
