We are very saddened to share that the Kawartha Wildlife Centre's fundraising campaign has ended and unfortunately we did not reach our financial target to be able to re-open the centre for wildlife intakes. The physical centre in Ennismore will closing permanently and all funds raised dedicated to the reopening of the centre, along with all physical assets, will be distributed to other wildlife centres that align with our mission and values.

The work of Kawartha Wildlife Centre has been needed and inspiring, with over 3,000 patients across six years, made possible by the generosity of our volunteers, donors and supporters. Thank you to all who helped keep Kawartha wild over the years! We will have more details to share over the coming months about our next steps as an organization.

We have less than one month to . We need your support now more than ever!

Wildlife rehabilitation can be demanding work. It involves round-the-clock care, specialized medical attention, and a deep understanding of each species' unique needs.

Did you know that Ontario is home to both northern and southern flying squirrels? These acrobatic and nocturnal creatures play a vital role in our ecosystems, but sadly, they too face challenges, each a species at risk. From hand-feeding to providing a safe space for recovery, our team invests their time, energy, and expertise to ensure every squirrel gets a chance to soar again - but we can only help these animals when our doors are open

As we navigate the challenges of being temporarily closed, your support becomes even more crucial. Your donations will help us reopen the centre so that we can continue this demanding yet rewarding work, ensuring that flying squirrels, and many others, continue to grace Ontario's skies. Without your support, we will be forced to close KWC’s doors permanently. Donate now to help us reach our goal of $200,000 to reopen and continue saving Kawartha Wildlife.

Wildlife Wednesdays are coming back to the Peterborough Public Library. 🐾
Though the centre is closed for wildlife rehabilitation, we are still dedicated to providing educational outreach for our community! This program is a fantastic way for kids (ages 5-12) to learn about wildlife coexistence and conservation. Join us this Wednesday, April 24th from 4-5 pm in the Children's Story Corner at the Peterborough Public Library for our first session focused on mammals!

Wildlife rehabilitation centres are about to be facing their busiest season yet. As animals are coming out of hibernation they are searching for food, places to nest, mate, and raise their young. But, KWC is still closed for the foreseeable future. Without community support, KWC will be forced to close permanently on June 1st, 2024. This will leave a massive gap in wildlife rehabilitation services in Peterborough and the Kawarthas, where many enjoy living, playing, and cottaging.

Injured and orphaned wildlife depend on our support the most during the spring and summer months. Just like us, young animals rely on their moms for food and protection. If a duckling is abandoned they usually won’t make it longer than a day or two. Human intervention is a duckling's best chance at survival. Help us reopen the Kawartha Wildlife Centre and get back to caring for wildlife in need. Donate and learn more about our campaign: www.kawarthawildlifecentre.ca

There are less than two months left in our campaign. We have been hard at work behind the scenes trying to raise $200,000 to reopen the centre, but we still have a long way to go - and we need your help!
