See you there!

09/03/2026

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Time on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Category 1 campfires are permitted throughout the Kamloops, Coastal and Cariboo Fire Centres.

As conditions across B.C. improve due to recent precipitation and fall-like conditions, the likelihood and intensity of wildfire spread decreases. Cooler temperatures help reduce fuel drying, maintaining higher moisture levels in vegetation and forest fuels.

Though there has been a downturn in weather, the campfire prohibition being rescinded does not mean letting our guard down. We all play a role in wildfire prevention:

🔥 Check conditions – Make sure campfires are allowed in your area, including checking any prohibitions from your local government. Don't burn if it's windy.

🔥 Burn wisely – Keep campfires small, no bigger than 0.5 metres by 0.5 metres. Use a fire ring or pit. Clear a fuel break around your fire free of anything that can burn.

🔥 Watch it – Never leave a fire unattended. Keep at least 8 litres of water or a firefighting hand tool - like a shovel - within reach.

🔥 Put it out – Cold to the touch, not just out of sight, before you leave.

Category 2 and 3 open fires remain prohibited through much of B.C., please check prohibitions for your area.

❤️ A big thank you to our community! ❤️
Thank you to everyone who came out to the IVFD Hall 3 Open House last Saturday! It was great to see so many people stop by, check out the trucks and equipment, and spend some time with us.

We’d also like to give a huge thank you to the local businesses and volunteers who helped out. Your support means so much to our firefighters.

Events like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community. We really appreciate everyone who came out, helped, donated, or simply stopped by to say hi.

Thank you for supporting the Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department! 🚒❤️

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in the Southeast, Cariboo, Coastal and Kamloops Fire Centres.

We recognize that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many. Restrictions are only considered when multiple factors indicate an elevated wildfire risk, heightened wildfire activity and limited capacity to respond to new fire starts.

With improving conditions in some regions of B.C., and cooler wetter weather in the forecast we are now able to rescind these prohibitions. We continue to monitor wildfire risk and prohibitions may be implemented or rescinded as conditions change.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by ORV users during this period. We know many riders take fire prevention seriously and recreate responsibly on established roads and trails. If you're returning to the backcountry, we ask for your support in reporting any new wildfires through our app or by calling *5555.

🔥 Last chance to get your raffle tickets! 🔥

The Interlakes Volunteer Fire Department will be at the Loon Bay Market today from 10:00 until 3:00 selling raffle tickets. Today is our last day at the market, so come by, say hi, and pick up a few tickets while you're there!

Sales are a little behind this year, and every ticket helps. Funds raised go toward wildfire gear and equipment, food for firefighters during calls and training, and other necessary supplies and equipment.

Thanks for supporting your local volunteer firefighters and helping us help our community! ❤️

This prohibition is effective immediately, as of 12 p.m. (noon) on August 10, 2026.
